Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 4)

Florida’s new recommendation. He comes to this conclusion using something called self controlled case series. I tried reading about it but I got lost and confused. Apparently with that method the person with the reaction is their own control subject.

Not sure how you come to the conclusion if it’s not compared to people who did not get the vaccine or people who got the vaccine and had no reaction.

Of course it’s Florida where I just found out the state CFO is also the state fire marshal who’s panicking everyone because one Tesla caught fire so that translated to all EVs, all, are ticking time bombs that could explode at any time.

This analysis found that there is an 84% increase in the relative incidence of cardiac-related death among males 18-39 years old within 28 days following mRNA vaccination. With a high level of global immunity to COVID-19, the benefit of vaccination is likely outweighed by this abnormally high risk of cardiac-related death among men in this age group. Non-mRNA vaccines were not found to have these increased risks.

As such, the State Surgeon General recommends against males aged 18 to 39 from receiving mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. Those with preexisting cardiac conditions, such as myocarditis and pericarditis, should take particular caution when making this decision.

Looks like the key words in there are “relative incidence.” If there is a minuscule risk of something, it’s very easy to have a large relative risk of it once you break it down into subsets. Cardiac related death in males 18-39 yo is extremely low. As such, just breaking it down into component groups is going to massively amplify any effects as well as any errors in the data. They also seem to have tossed out patients once they have had COVID itself, which defeats the purpose. The real risk comparison is vaccine vs. COVID, not vaccine vs. pre-vaccine. And from what I’ve seen, cardiac death is increased significantly in all groups who get severe COVID, and that includes 18-39 yo men.

Thanks for that- It was worth the read just for this diagram alone:

And just like that the entire right wing internet and many legitimate news sources are quoting that nonsense study. We are so screwed.

What a weird thing to have a state surgeon general start a brand new vaccine myth that will do plenty of damage.

As expected Marge is running with it.

I’ve been posting that analogy since it first popped up, usually it falls on deaf ears. Their argument has always been if one single thing by itself doesn’t work than cross that thing off the list.

I point out but then you won’t even have one single piece of cheese between you and covid to which they reply, right, it can’t be avoided. Idiots.

I see they added some extra slices to the cheese since the original graphic. We have quite a few slices between us and covid, hopefully it’s enough.

We’re probablly avoiding holiday get together this year because most of the family hates cheese.

XBB and BQ.1.1? I was just getting used to the idea of a BA.4.6 or BF.7 wave…

We took a last minute camping trip to Frankenmuth, MI, it’s a major tourist attraction but pretty cool.

We came mostly to get away and even if we didn’t step foot in a store it would have been a win.

We walked a couple miles to town but forgot it was a federal holiday and Canadian Thanksgiving so the town was packed. There are enough stores so you can find some empty ones.

Not a single mask in the tiny shops, a few employees were wearing them but that’s it.

I stayed out of the stores and sat outside while my double masked wife enjoyed a little shopping.

In the last store she went into she said there was a family with teenage girls and friends, she said they followed her and kept trying to get selfies with her in the background. She’s nicer than me so she ignored them.

Somewhere there’s a social media post mocking her.

Tomorrow it’s the world’s largest CHRISTmas(their spelling) store but a Tuesday morning should relatively empty.

I guess the pandemic really is over.

Still a fun little getaway though.

Not only not asking her permission to use her image, but mocking her. And the parents did nothing to stop it.

With ‘values’ like that, I think we know who the parents voted for.

a new working paper by three Yale public health and economics researchers—Jacob Wallace, Paul Goldsmith-Pinkham, and Jason Schwartz—is offering the most definitive and direct evidence I’ve seen yet confirming that Republicans have indeed been more likely to die because of COVID. The study, released by the National Bureau of Economic Research, also confirms the scale of these deaths and points to the central role vaccine hesitancy has likely played in the tragedy.

The most tragicomic response I have seen is “Democrats conspired to kill off Republicans by telling them to get vaccinated and wear masks. They knew that if they said that, the Repubs would absolutely refuse. They planned it so Covid would kill off the right!”

And they say this like it makes some kind of logical sense…

Huh, I’m surprised there wasn’t a blue spike early on when it was hitting the cities so hard and fucking Kushner said the administration didn’t need to help because it was hitting mainly blue areas. :rage:
Goes to show how mixed together we all really are.
