Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 4)

Six month check up at the heart doctor today.

I always take the first appointment of the day. Only me and 2 other patients in the waiting area, I was the only one with a mask and only one staff member had a mask on.

But, when I came out an hour later the waiting room was full and quite a few people were wearing masks.

Smart people.

I also heard a patient canceling because they tested positive for covid.

Not covid-related, but I’ve now had the influenza vaccine, too. Vaxigriptetra four-valent one. No symptoms or side effects so far!

Got another Covid shot today, okay so far. I always wound up doing Moderna before, but this time I was told just prior to being poked that it’s Novavax. I asked why and was told it was just the one this pharmacy decided to go with, and that it also has a “lower symptom profile.”

Instead of putting the shot on hold to do some research, I juat went ahead and got jabbed. :person_shrugging:

Turns out we discussed it here a year ago:

I could use some help please picking and ordering some reliable masks?

I like the ones that go around the back of one’s head, but we misordered some that only grab onto one’s ears. I asked because I find it so difficult to know which brand reliably masks out particulates, and then, to know whether I’m ordering the actual brand or a knockoff of it.

We use only 3M N95.

Their 8200 model is pretty comfortable and the straps are pretty durable for multiple use. I buy them 5 boxes at a time from Uline (I know, horrible owners but they are reliable, competitively priced, and well packaged for shipping)

You can also get them from the 3M Amazon store but the boxes might not do well in the shipping.

You can find N95 masks cheaper but 3M is quality stuff.

I believe N95 are only made with over the head straps, KN95 are ear loops.

3M makes a flat fold N95 with over head straps but we found those to be uncomfortable and not well fitting. They’re are nice to keep in the glovebox, purse, bike bag, etc… for emergencies.

Amplifying @tcg550. 3M is what we use every day. They come in multiple sizes, so you have to figure out which one fits your face. the 1860 fits me almost perfectly.

Can you find one of those plastic thingies with hooks that you can anchor the ear-grabbing mask straps onto? I found some for sale at my local pharmacy, at a low price, so I picked one up in case I need to mask up during the winter.
