… per year for a decade to support studies, the pursuit of treatments, and the expansion of care for U.S. patients impacted by the condition. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) introduced companion legislation last month.
Great news, but what’s the connection to Covid?
In the article; the pandemic was given as a reason for the increase in gun violence and murders.
I got this year’s Covid booster! It was Comirnaty, updated against JN.1 variant.
So far, very little side effects, besides a sore arm.
Same here - got mine on Saturday, along with this year’s flu shot. As usual, my arm was sore for about two days, but there have been no other side effects that I’ve been aware of.
Fun fact:
Wastewater monitoring has only been available in Germany for quite a short time. It took a pandemic to introduce it. It is now widely implemented.
And funding is going to be stopped at 31.12.2024.
A physician accused of falsely claiming that a stroke patient died at the former Fountain Valley Regional Hospital from the Moderna COVID-19 vaccination faces disciplinary action from the Medical Board of California.
According to patient records, in July 2021, Nguyen described a 67-year-old woman’s COVID-19 pneumonia diagnosis as a possible adverse reaction to the Pfizer vaccine she received two months earlier, the medical board said.
Nguyen allegedly prescribed the woman the malaria drug Plaquenil, which had its U.S. Food and Drug emergency authorization revoked in June 2020 well before her hospitalization because it showed no benefit in speeding COVID-19 recovery.
Medical records reportedly indicate that an infectious disease consulting physician recommended that the patient stop taking Plaquenil.
In response, Nguyen purportedly documented that he was instead providing Plaquenil for the patient’s rheumatoid arthritis without consulting medical experts and at double the usual maximum dose.
Nguyen also allegedly advised the woman, who was at high risk for COVID-19, that she should avoid the coronavirus booster, representing an “extreme departure” from the standard of care, the medical board said.
Brazilian researchers have identified a previously unrecognized function of sperm that is unrelated to reproduction. A study of 13 patients admitted to the Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade de São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil, with moderate to severe COVID-19 showed that male gametes released extracellular traps (in a process called ETosis) in response to the infection. This immune response, which is common to macrophages and neutrophils, had never been observed in mammalian reproductive cells.
…
The new findings indicate that the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection can continue for as long as 90 days after symptoms and signs disappear and affect sperm count and gamete quality for even longer. “With the sperm selection technique, you are at risk of taking a cell with viruses and injecting it into the egg. It is not known what changes this may cause to the embryo,” said Hallak.
Scientists have concluded that widespread physical distancing and masking practiced during the early days of COVID-19 appear to have pushed B/Yamagata into oblivion.
This surprised many who study influenza, as it would be the first documented instance of a virus going extinct due to changes in human behavior, said Dr. Rebecca Wurtz, an infectious disease physician and epidemiologist at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.
Nobody fully understand how covid will affect us.
The sooner that guy joins his brother, the better.
Indeed. Antivaxxers are still out in full force.
But they won’t be around as long as the rest of us.
I’ve been on sick leave for the last three weeks, and intermittently before that as well. Caught who-knows-what in August, worked myself up to a sinusitis which had at some point developed up to a necessary treatment with appropriate antibiotics, and fell sick with COVID symptoms two days after I got mostly out of the woods considering the problems with the bacteria living in my near-to-my-brain cavities. When the fever hit, I tested very, very faintly positive. It actually might have been to residues of Staphylococcus aureus, which are known to cause false positives. It might also have been COVID alright, since after a week of rest, when I was feeling better (mostly because the diarrhoea was very much better, thank you very much dear microbiome), I got a fever AGAIN and the test was basically positive the moment the drops touched the lateral flow device.
Today is the first day I don’t feel like lying around is the best thing to do.
Happy to live in a country with a real health service and a rather working health insurance system. More than happy, actually. I am paying nearly 1000 € a month to the insurer for that privilege, and this is literally the best investment in my life.
