And we also have MULTIPLE ‘cute critters’ threads that are all kinds of awesome, and when we post them all in this thread we’re neglecting them.
I love me some cute little critters and I’m not afraid of a tangent, but there’s a difference between a casual tangent and using them to avoid taking responsibility for misbehaviors. I get the ‘oh no not this again’, but it’s not like we’re talking about any of the possible subjects relevant to the article.
And dammit, we were having fun and I’m STILL loving the visual of the mankini police force!

Well, if you participate in the DE-railment, and you’re invited to participate in the RE-railment, then you can serve the greater good in an even better way.
We could’ve turned this convo into one about the differences between policing in the two regions and people on both sides of the issue would’ve been participating in a positive way, it might have helped pull others in as well! We were SOOOO close, @Melizmatic also took a really good stab it it earlier in the thread and only a couple of us bit, sadly.
Wouldn’t that have had a more powerful impact than us just filling the thread with digressions to put the bad taste as far behind us as possible? It’s not as easy, but I be my mom would’ve approved of the re-railment more…and she’s SUPER wise!
I don’t think that detail was meant to be titillating. LOTS of people in Europe enjoy nude sun bathing and aren’t seen as weird nudists or what ever like they are in the US. So had she been nude sun bathing and the story happened, I doubt it would have raised an extra brow in her home country. Which is probably why she made the comment in the first place.
In the US it would have been more of a “ZOMG she’s naked!”
Of course, the homeless guy would have been naked too. And no one wants to see that…

Yeah, I don’t THINK that was near a beach, so that’s probably a fair point. Things kind of even out when everybody has ready access to the ocean though.
If he looked like a normal-sized Dwayne Johnson, I don’t think people would be wondering how he smelled through the picture. And not everybody’s homeless for extended periods, some people just end up stuck there briefly because safety nets fail them.
Happened to me not too long ago, and there was just as much luck involved in my return to society as there was my own determination. Plenty of people who are just as awesome as any of us are homeless.

Take into your hearts whatever lessons you want to learn with you before this goes. Lessons about speaking up, human attraction, trust, consent, fear, respecting each other’s boundaries, gender representations in comics, why it’s important to bring social justice with you when you go social media stalking, the #norealfeminist fallacy, the #norealally corollary, the desire to keep a space you like safe, and the desire to make a space you like safe for you.
I don’t know if it’s true, but I hear if 6 different people say “Only Fire Lives Here Now” in an unbroken string (flat, not threaded), that the mightly Don’t Push Your Luckdragon can be summoned by anyone to close this early.

And wow…burst of melancholy.
She looks JUST like a slightly bulkier Mystic, our pound mutt that was the least brave and sweetest dog in the world. She was old and just kind of gave up when Rebecca passed away. She went from happy and simple to refusing to eat and crying all the time.
I miss that dog almost as much as I miss Rebs. She was the bestest dog ever, and she turned me into a dog person.
