COUP: Under cover of #muslimban, Bannon throws top general and spy off the National Security Council and installs himself in their stead

Good thing the Trump administration happens to agree with itself!

Check back in 10 minutes.

I remember seeing that on TV at like 3am at least 15 years ago. I never knew the name – thank you for fixing that – but it always stuck with me, and I’ve found myself thinking about it when our collective nations have been doing things that don’t quite align with our self-assigned role as ‘the good guys.’

Over the last six months a different film has occupied my thoughts though; No Country for Old Men. I’ll leave the interpretation of that as an exercise for the reader.

It’s beginning to look like the right hand doesn’t know what the reich hand is doing.

Yes, I do, but I’m not going to stop pointing out the toads that pour from his mouth. We cannot allow the abnormal to become normalised. It doesn’t really mess with me because I expect right-wing authoritarians to pander to bigots, whether they’re here or in Europe or Russia.

Speaking of that last, while I suspect that Gorka and Bannon and Flynn all have separate and unspoken briefs on the NSC, I know that they all share an admiration for Putin’s policy approaches in a number of areas.

There always seems to be a character like this skulking around the halls of Republican power.

Secretary of Lies, Corruption, and Pandering?

Lee Atwater. Newt Gingrich. Karl Rove. Now Stephen Bannon.

Well, if even the White House is on board, maybe I should rethink my position.

“When Fascism comes to America it will come wrapped in an American flag and carrying a cross as an asshole with a five day growth of scraggly grey beard and an anger management problem.”

Yeah, that’s the weird thing. We all expected fascism to come in the guise of something else, but it turns out that the fascists are all just openly unapologetic Nazis. It’s like watching a Twilight Zone episode in which you expect Man to be revealed as the real monster but it’s really just monsters that are the real monsters.

Not quite there yet; a lot of the base are open bigots, but the leadership (including Trump) are still trying the “I’m absolutely not a racist, and that’s why I support all these racist policies…” schtick.

And Trump is making an effort to wallow in flags and bibles. Inauguration speech as Exhibit A.

I did say something to that effect, previously…

The monsters are us, and with this so called administration, the monsters in charge are the very worst of the worst.

Does anyone know if the actual Nazis owned up to being racist? I wouldn’t be surprised if they said stuff like “how is it racist to simply acknowledge the physical, intellectual and moral superiority of the Aryan people?”

A common term is “grifter”. “Conman” or “Confidence trickster” if you’re feeling old fashioned.

See: “white man’s burden”-- pretty much all of Western Civilization was unapologetically racist 100 years ago, the Nazis helped open our eyes to exactly where that sinister road led.
