Came here to say this. I drive a small Nissan hatchback with a roof rack. I am well-aquatinted with those strange looks at the lumberyard, and I don’t mind one bit. Especially with fuel prices where they are.
Honestly I can’t get past “the competition isn’t … their” to engage with the stupidity of the signal I might imagine they intend.
Seriously. Show me how it handles a 40mph offset collision and we’ll talk.
Plus if a competitor’s vehicle got a bunch of small dents in it the owner could get it fixed at any body shop with some Bondo & paint instead of having to replace the whole body panel.
Lugging around all that extra weight for that low probability event probably doesn’t help the mileage (or its ability to act as a boat ).
