Not quite.
He’s not the ex for most of us, because most of us never CHOSE him. Rather, he’s more like America’s asshole step-father: he was thrust upon us by some members of the household, and he never really cared about us anyway.

In the same way not removing Trump from office during the impeachment hearings means he will just run again, not prosecuting him for Jan 6th means he will gladly utilize the power of mob violence again.
