I was about 7 when that photo was taken and was low-key obsessed with the news coverage for a while. I must’ve seen that particular picture a million times, as the idea of a badass dude with an uzi defending the president (even though we weren’t fans of Ronnie in our house) just hit every 7-year-old-boy neuron exactly the right way. But this is the first time I’ve seen what existed beyond that left margin and I am LOVING this!
My 7-y/o self may love Robert Wanko of the Secret Service, but my 50-y/o self only has eyes for the mildly perturbed and slightly camera shy chap in the Sears sport coat who just wanted to cross the damn street.
Robert Wanko looks like he could be played by Dabney Coleman in 1980s’ a TV movie about the assassination attempt, and I think that’s a pretty cool look.
Of course, if Mr Wanko had been born this side of the pond, his school days would have been one long session of name-calling. He dodged the bullet there.
Yes, he does have that Dabney look. I don’t know if us yanks knew about wankers in Wanko’s youth but if we did, that may explain the eagerness to wield an uzi at any provocation!
Just a clarification that FPP is not a disorder, it is a personality trait. It can lead to disorders, such as the maladaptive daydreaming you mentioned, but it is not considered a disorder in and of itself.
