Unless the Denver PD consists of sick and doddering geriatric wrecks, it sounds like police work isn’t as dangerous as they make it out to be.

i live in NYC. on tuesday at 7 AM, i was out for cup of coffee and saw a guy who was pleasuring himself while sitting on the bench in a bus stop. pants down and going to town. he had already defecated all over the bench and the glass wall. less than half a block away were 2 cops sitting in their car. they were shielded from the incident so i went up to them and relayed what was going on. cop says to me “yeah OK we’ll call it in.” call it in? you are 20 steps from the guy!!! that is what they are like over here.

Classic authoritarianism: In theory laws (etc.) bind everyone and protect everyone, but in practice there are those whom the law binds but does not protect and others whom the law protects but does not bind. You can guess which group the DPD belongs to.

I sure don’t recall anything like this nonsense back when Polio shots came along.
I’m sure there were some fundies who felt Jayzus would protect them but nothing like this wholesale nonsense.
Humanity will survive, but I truly begin to wonder if the US is not so badly on the wane that we will no longer matter in a generation or two.

Hey, I always liked the idea of paid administrative leave. During my entire working life no employer ever told me to go home or on holiday and we’ll continue your full pay and benefits for an indefinite but likely long period. Talk about harsh punishment!

Any bets on (1) how many cops get fired for refusing to get vaccinated, and (2) what this timeline is?
If I had to guess, I’d say nothing will happen at all. But then again, Colorado did pass that police accountability act, so there might be some interest in enforcing the vaccine mandate.

In 2020 more American cops died of Covid-19 than all other causes combined.
If they really want to push the “Blue Lives Matter!” narrative then maybe they should start by demonstrating they actually care about protecting their own lives and the lives of their colleagues.

I’m not sure about polio, but 19th and early 20th century North America was full of smallpox anti-vaxxers who successfully lobbied against vaccines and vaccine mandates resulting in epidemics killing 10s of thousands of people, mostly children.

Exactly who do these people think they are? James Bond? Dirty Harry? Steve McQueen? “They have guns”? This is so clearly a toxic situation. Does no one have oversight? Apparently not. I’d be careful not to even speed if there was a chance that I’d get stopped by a cop breathing COVID 19 all over me when he practically sticks his head in my car window. I’ve been vaccinated, but breakthroughs happen. Let’s go with the preferred mantra of those vaccinated:
NO JAB, NO JOB!
