This is all part of the administrations plan, which is not to reduce the cases/deaths in the US, but increase the cases/deaths in the rest of the world to try make the US look better.

I don’t think the rest of the world is going to fall for it.

This has less to do with any real travel restriction rather it helps to prop up airline companies.

As noted there is nowhere for Americans to go to right now anyway.

When you’re doing as badly in managing the virus as America is then foreign travel isn’t a risk to you.

And the weak and embarrassing attempts to pretend that the U.S. isn’t the global hotbed of COVID continue. The fact is, no other sane country wants to let American residents in, and no-one who’s sane from those countries wants to visit a country where delusion and denialism have allowed the virus to spread despite being a technologically advanced and wealthy nation-state.

“Good news! There is nowhere you could travel that is more dangerous than where you are now!”

Maybe Airlines could start doing, “A Trip Around The Harbour” like jolly-boats at a seaside resort. Get on a plane; fly around for an hour, and end up back where you started. Maybe there could be a bundle offer with a hotel chain in your local city, allowing you to get the full tourist experience.

Like everywhere else, Canada will likely be hit by the second wave just like the US. The only real question will be whether once it’s apparent, will the government re-impose lockdowns, or will it just try and brave it out.

If we reimpose, then we’ll bankrupt a large number of businesses that were clinging to solvency by their fingernails. If we don’t, we’ll end up with a massive outbreak just like the US, which will bankrupt a large number of businesses that were clinging to solvency by their fingernails. Plus a lot more people will be dead.

In my mind, it’s not clear what the provincial governments will do.

While we have the advantage of not having an executive campaigning on a pro-corona-virus platform, history shows that there are very few ideas that once proven disastrous by American experience, Canada won’t later try to adopt. I’m hoping this is one of the exceptions.
