That’s rich; it’s not as if anyone attempting to travel to NZ would even be allowed to enter the country.

O_o

The US is persona non grata to most of the rest of the world right now, and I don’t blame them.

Um… African Americans, @frauenfelder ?

Are you sure that’s what you meant to write?

'Cuz I’m pretty sure they don’t want ANY of us right now…

Whoa, what the hell?

EDIT: looking again, it seems like a STT glitch. :relieved:

I’m hoping that was a mistake.

…any case New Zealand isn’t eager to allow African-Americans to invade their pristine myelination…

An edit might be in order. The story makes no specific reference to African-Americans, just to Americans in general. I’m sure NZ is equally eager to keep out all Americans – regardless of ethnic origin.

Also - far less edit-urgent, obviously, but… I had to look up “myelination” and apparently:

Myelination is the formation of a myelin sheath

???

Actually, looking again, it’s definitely a speech-to-text glitch or something similar. “Island nation” became “myelination” and “COVID” became “c o v i t”.

“African-Americans” was supposed to be “rat-licking Americans”

That’s highly problematic; especially if one isn’t in the habit of reviewing one’s content before hitting ‘submit.’

Right, both versions are in Mark’s post (now? or always were?)

Myelin is what protects your nerves, like insulation on wiring

And if you go to the doctor, they will screen you for COVID risk by asking if you’ve been out of the country in the past 14 days! They really should put you in a lower risk category if you’ve been almost anywhere else in the world…

[via New Zealand Herald] on August 6th the US state department issued a warning for US citizens considering traveling to New Zealand because the country has 23 Active cases of c o v i t 19 currently the United States has over 2 million and in any case New Zealand isn’t eager to allow African-Americans to invade their pristine myelination unless you have a couple of million dollars to buy citizenship that is

Excuse me?

Edit: Looking at the comments i guess its text-to-speech being left on the post. But come on guys, proof read the post ]:

Lol oh please. 30 people at a nursing home in my small town died from the virus but I don’t hear him threaten to cut my town off from the rest of the country.

Next they’ll be issuing a travel advisory about visiting Iceland because their police shot a guy in 2013.

“Melanination” is clumsy, but would fit the context of “African-American”. Just a mistake, I’m sure.

I get the feeling this entire warning was for the benefit of the rich, who have spent several years visiting NZ, buying up property, and treating that country like their preferred bolt hole if things got too uncomfortable for them in the US. I’m sure they’ll be just fine floating offshore in their mega-yachts until they can per$uade the NZ government to let them in.

I doubt that much thought went into it; 45 is losing ground fast and seems to be flailing about wildly in his attempts to misdirect attention and keep the chaos going.

Again that orange fucker simply cannot drop dead soon enough…

Most of my experiments involve sticking very sharp electrodes into neurons, making me an expert on invading pristine myelination.
So I can assure you it has nothing to do with NZ, travel, or covid, so @frauenfelder how about fixing the post

My impression, too – just another version of the Nigerian 419 tactic of targetting the stupid. The Know-Nothing 27% will eat it up because they don’t trust them thar furriners anyhow and because the farthest most of them have been from the States is 10 days on a floating mall and casino in the Caribbean.

Anyone not in the habit of doing that (unless physically unable to) has no business publishing ANYTHING anywhere. Frauenfelder has no excuse. And why twice? The alleged link to the New Zealand Herald actually goes to the US gov travel advisory page so it’s hard to tell if the Herald also made the error or Mark read it out twice or read it once and copied and pasted it without reading it!

But then he corrected one iteration but not the second. Maybe he meant to delete it?

In several respects this post is a total mess.

ETA @StatusQuo posted a link to the NZ Herald and it says nothing remotely like the words Mark used.
