It might not be a good idea to blow this stuff off just because Darth Santis is saying it. Even Trump hasn’t yet called for murder (other than the guy he shot on 5th Avenue). By injecting this sort of talk into the campaign DeSantis is helping normalize the Right’s increasingly violent rhetoric. Just because True American’s won’t vote for him doesn’t mean they won’t take his message to heart.

His entire campaign strategy has been baffling. The only way he gets the nomination is if he can find something to offer that Trump doesn’t have, but instead every move seems to be “remember that awful thing Trump did? I can do it too!”

While he doesn’t currently offer much that Trump doesn’t, it’s not inconceivable that at some point prior to the election he will. Such a thing might be
- The ability to travel to important presidential meetings and functions that occur in locations outside of the Federal prison system
- A pulse
