Wait, why the fuck couldn’t she drive home after being ticketed with expired tags. I’ve had that ticket more than once. Never even been suggested I couldn’t drive it. Shit I even accidentally was driving while suspended and got caught and I still drove away after the ticket.

I was going to post a similar comment about the domestic violence statistics for police officers. I don’t have a source, but I remember reading about a gun control measure to ban selling guns to convicted abusers that failed because it would have disarmed over half of the police officers where it was being considered.

Source on that? Because domestic violence convictions, even misdemeanors, is cause for losing gun rights under national law. Though perhaps the law was broader reaching than that. And good luck getting cops convicted of anything.

technically it is illegal to drive a vehicle with expired tags, the vehicle is no longer street legal. it can’t even be parked on a public street with expired tags and not get ticketed.
i got pulled over for expired tags in BC, and had to pay the $700 ticket, plus get a taxi and have the car towed to the nearest place it could be parked until i could renew my tags and return to the vehicle to drive it home. In BC expired tags means the vehicle is uninsured. Might be different in different places?
edit: just to be clear, in this weather in winter the cop should have issued a warning. endangering lives in the false pursuit of safety is completely missing the intention of the law and their role in enforcing it.

That sounds like a natural consequence and a good thing.
Departments should be trying to offload domestic abusers to the point of being prejudiced.
If you can’t stop from beating a “loved one” why should we expect you to treat a stranger with basic dignity?

I’ve been pulled over by a black officer for expired tags and given a warning as long as I promised to get them ASAP.
Yeah but I’ve NEVER heard of a cop doing anything more than a ticket. And due to my doctorate level of procrastination, I have had expired tags more times than what any adult should have.
I have heard of not letting one drive away for a license, but never a car tag issue. It takes a special kind of asshole.

The link you posted lists a weird corner case. Misdemeanor domestic violence prevents having a gun, but felony convictions still fall under the old rules which barred personal weapons, but allowed for service weapons.

Why are any felons still cops? I mean the example they give is ludicrous.
Thus if a police officer is convicted of murdering his/her spouse or has a protection order placed against them, they may, under federal law, still be able to possess a service revolver while on duty, whereas if they are convicted of a qualifying misdemeanor they are prohibited from possessing any firearm or ammunition at any time.
