Not ownership but local government. The district “acts with most of the same authority and responsibility as a county government”.
Ah, my mistake. I was interpreting “controlled by” as ownership, not management. Thank you for the correction.
I’ve edited the post to make it clearer.
Yep, but not Edmund Burke. https://www.openculture.com/2016/03/edmund-burkeon-in-action.html
Not entirely fair to compare the two - Chamberlain was an honourable man facing an unprecedented evil hoping desperately to avoid a repeat of a catastrophe that had devastated and traumatised a generation.
Those who appease modern fascists wilfully do so in full knowledge of Chamberlain’s failure.
Yup. Nothing more, nothing less. Maxim 29.
The moment anybody uses the term “culture wars”, I just know some bullshit is going to follow. There are no “culture wars”. It’s an imaginary concept people use when they want to be offended at someone else’s existence and make it their fault for existing.
Physician, heal thyself. “Wokeism” isn’t killing your business, it’s your business practices that are killing your business.
Case in point. The last Marvel movie I saw was Shang-Chi. I’ve simply had zero interest in anything since, and the constant deluge of interconnected content has pretty much guaranteed I’ll not watch anything else because it just won’t make any sense otherwise. Same with Star Wars. Not to mention the deluge of remakes/retreads. Like, I though the live action remake of Mulan was fine, but it was beyond unnecessary.
If you didn’t watch Secret Invasion, don’t bother. Considering how much was allegedly spent on it, it’s embarrassingly bad and highly forgettable.
Loki was great, Wandavision was trippy, and I honestly semi enjoyed Falcon and the Winter Soldier, mainly because I watched it with my kids and happily got to nerd out on comics vs show differences. Almost every other series hasn’t been worth the time investment.
I never fell for Disney’s Jedi Mind Tricks.
There’s been a few shows i’ve wanted to see but i just don’t have the energy to care enough to go through with it. I’d like to at least watch Loki some day but we’ve long since cancelled out Disney+ account
The Ahsoka series is great, I think they’ve captured some feeling of the original movies.
So…no more same-sex couples pecking each other’s cheeks, or holding hands, or making google eyes at each other? Because that’s about the depth of Disney’s “support” of anything not cishet. Which is why I’m not surprised they rolled over so easy.
Has Disney tried re-making a movie that was, itself, based on an amusement park ride? Because that seems both lucrative and novel

"I’ve pretty much stopped watching [ anything to do with a “franchise” ] because it’s just exhausting. There’s too much stuff coming out that is either samey, or most usually it’s lazily put together plot and script-wise."
My take: Disney performed slightly worse than they expected last quarter but the actual reasons for that are complex with lots of different factors. Some of which the can control, like the oversaturation of their main IPs, and some they can’t like the general glut of streaming services and people not having as much disposable income for visiting theme parks.
So they just did what corporate management usually does and went for an easy answer to use as a binky for fussy investors.
What was the latest new thing that we introduced or pushed, mild-support for LGBTQ+ folk by openly marketing to them like any other demographic? Okay, obviously that’s not profitable. Ditch it, quietly.
Looks like the slow AI has loaded a new set of training data.
Thank you, I was coming here to say the same. To me, that term is just “both sides” ing the issue, when in fact it’s aggression from one side and fighting for our lives on the other. It hits me like if we blamed Ukrainians for the war in Ukraine, because, how dare they fight back.
Seems like a bad time for Disney to blink.
The fact he made sure it wasn’t necessary to resign to run showed he wasn’t entirely confident about success from the beginning. Unfortunately for Florida, they’ll be stuck with a less distracted tyrant after he bows out. Not sure if he’ll double-down on the haterade or flip-flop, though. That depends on what kind of support he needs for his next power play or grifting opportunity.
