No, it isn’t.

Which is not to say that the DPRK is nice. It’s an impoverished hereditary autocracy, with all that implies.

But the common image of the place as presented in Western media is severely distorted.

That’s certainly an interesting turn of phrase.

It’s just a diplomatic term of art. Sadly one we might hear more of in the coming years as more strongman governments take hold and start squabbling.
