That may be the way they are behaving, but it does not have to be so. They could just as easily conclude that Sanders better represents their constituents values and he is the best candidate for the party - make it so.
Its just more signs of a corrupt process, one that Clinton is fully party to.
So far his bluff, bluster, racism, and misogyny have worked for him so heâs had no reason to abandon them. But if he did change to a moderate, reasonable candidate that would, at the very least, raise serious questions about who the ârealâ Trump is.
Although really whatâs most frightening to me is how many people like him just the way he is.
The best way to enable a âcorruptâ process is to pretend that something will change without direct action.
I donât consider it a corruption anyway, as superdelegates exist to support the party establishment. How can these assigned/promised appointments supporting those who appoint them be a corruption of the original intent of the role?
Whether theyâre a positive force or not is irrelevant, theyâre fulfilling the intention of the role. If you donât like this, work to eliminate the role.
I think we can see that the role could be useful, so eliminating the role is not necessarily the path to the best outcome. I think freeing the SuperDelegates from insider obligations and controlled appointments, freeing them to do the right thing would be more useful.
Inherent in your question is that any established powerbase will always work to selfish ends. I agree that this is what we are witnessing, but I disagree that it canât play out any other way.
Dems: Weâre sick of the bloodshed! Me: Yes! Dems: Itâs time to reign in the pandemic of gun violence and death once and for all! Me:Yes! Dems: And we will stay here and keep this in session until we address it! Me:YES! Dems: By passing legislation forbidding the purchase or possession of firearms for anyone on the terror watch list. Me: GUYS, WTF
Really? Is it possible that Trump is the new herald of Galactus, who is on his way to devour the planet? Is it possible that Trump is the Second Coming of Christ? Is it possible that we are all Donald Trump, nightmaring our collective self into existence?
Then no, not âliterally anythingâ is possible. Stop using âliterallyâ as a generic intensifier.
This has been your curmudgeonly rant for Sunday, the 10th of July.
Dems: By trying to put the GOP in a position where theyâre forced to vote on the record against our crappy bill that we know wonât pass and wouldnât achieve anything even if it did.
It was political theatre for electoral advantage, nothing more. Gun law reform is to the Dems what abortion is to the GOP. Lots of noise, no real intention of resolving the issue.
âŚand enforcing universal background checks. Iâm not a fan of the watchlists, but that wasnât all they were asking for or pushing for, itâs just what everyone complained about when they tried.
âŚwhile being very careful not to actually go so far as to eliminate the issue. Roe vs Wade has not been overturned, despite several decades of the Supreme Court being dominated by GOP-appointed far-right partisans.
The GOP base wants to eliminate reproductive autonomy, yes. The GOP establishment, OTOH, is terrified of losing one of their best fundraising tools.
I choose to believe that all of these are possible. We shall immanentize the egregore whereby the risen Christ shall take the form of a megalomanaical cheeto-guinea pig hybrid to foretell the great nomnomnom of doom.
Your reality may vary. Mine is much more interesting. I suggest you try the mushrooms.
