Or get him to do!
That might be a tad much for me personally, but I getcha.
Nay
I remember one of the first novel things I stumbled on when I got internet access was a Christian BDSM scene that focused on the ātraditional rolesā of Bible times. I forget the exacts, but in retrospect, these people sounded healthier in many aspects. They could compartmentalize and separate the past from present, accepting that weāre different.
Perhaps I was too optimistic as I never interacted with them, but Iād like to think that they put a little thought into their current lifestyl and gender roles in the process.
As much as the golden rule is appreciated as wise, it still kinda sucks. I mean, what if youāre a masochist?
āDo unto others what you would have them do unto you⦠With a pair of handcuffs and a bullwhip. Also donāt stop when they say youāre hurting them. Thatās not the safeword.ā
I prefer the Platinum rule myself, āDo unto others as they would have you do unto them.ā
That way your judgment on how to treat people is informed by their preferences, and not your own.
Because other people arenāt you.
Yah the golden rule is flawed. If we followed it & the rest of the bible our ideal concept of āConsentā would be making sure everyone had a safeword incorporated into their trampstamp and there would still be hundreds of loopholes.
They have a problem with set theory? Seriously? Whatās next? Do they also deny the validity of histograms, Venn-diagrams and logarithms?
If youāre so pissed off at women for forcing you into being a slathering idiot who just canāt control himself, why donāt you move to Saudi Arabia. Iām sure the Wahhabis will welcome you with open arms, and plenty of rocks to throw at shameful sluts who are asking to get stoned to death by the way they dress.
So the logical corollary is . . . . they should all be nude?
SET THEORY IS UNGODLY!!! Duh!
But the masochist argument and the platinum rule simply shifts empathy and responsibility.
There are no hard and set rules, but when it comes to game theory that has the best chance of benefitting the most people (Spock face on) I think Do unto others is about as good as we can get. With 25 amendments.
(BTW, thatās Maggie speaking; my own religious upbringing was liberal)
Because sets are weird. A set can contain an infinity of sets each containing its own infinity. And God is infinite and there can be only One. Or something.
And my take on the modesty thing? Wear whatever you like, feel free. Iām quite capable of admiring the scenery without touching and of keeping a straight face and holding back the laughter until later ā¦
But like everyone else, I only have a limited amount of bandwidth for logical thought. So if you want my best possible response, then dressing in a manner that allows me to concentrate on what you want to talk about, rather than on deliberately ignoring what you are or are not wearing might be sensible. Your call. Applies to males and females equally.
Perhaps. It could be a personal preference, but I always seem to get really bad results when I assume someone is like me and would prefer to be treated the way I like. I tend to get much better results when I donāt make assumptions about someone else, and instead let them tell me how they want to be treated.
The way I see it, the golden rule puts all the responsibility for judging how to treat people on yourself, when you arenāt the target of that treatment in the first place. It just intuitively feels better to me to go about the problem by figuring out what that other person youāre interacting with wants, and try to honor their preferences (within reason, of course. Iām probably not going to empty my bank accounts and spend it on a mountain of fudge just because thatās how someone else wants to be treated (unless that someone else is really, really important to me.))
but you have to understand that the opinions and perspectives this sort of Christian fundamentalism has about society and culture were formed between the late 1920s and early 1970s and, because of this, the culture wars that they are fighting often come across as confusingly antiquated
This, actually, as a general comment on this set of religious movements, something people seem to miss⦠it is indeed very recent and a strong reaction to modernity, like the Islamist movement which began in the 20s and 30s.
Can I? No. I definitely canāt. But Iād have a great time trying!
A saying several friends use on me, " I feel ya trey". Canāt say I know what it means, but it feels appropriate.
I think it is equally important to treat yourself with the same respect you treat others. So really it honestly is a wash if you start with yourself or another person.
But game theory, as I understand it, posits you canāt know the other persons thoughts or motivations. So you must start from yourself. So a default position of the Golden Rule, statistically should have a better long term outcome.
See, I kinda didnāt notice that you were talking specifically about Game Theory. I completely agree from that angle.
Iāve been unusually scatter brained today and canāt figure out why.
This is why I like conversations, not arguments plus I am super scatter brained too. Iāve been off coffee for two months, but may need to relapse.
