Dukes of Hazzard's Bo Duke has a new film for fellow victims of the "woke left"

Every now and then, when the opportunity presents itself, I posit that you can’t be a patriot and not be anti-fascist. The reactions are sometimes really interesting.

As a former Galena, Illinois resident, I wholeheartedly approve. The General Grant may not be the sexiest car, ideally it should look slightly rumpled and you think it smells like someone spilled whiskey, but it gets the job done. It’s the car that saves your ass and doesn’t make a big fuss, even though no one respects it.

They missed a trick - a whacky right wing movie without Kevin Sorbo?

Sadly yes. Alberta was always conservative, but in the past few years has started to slide down the MAGA rabbit hole. It’s the Canadian version of it, which is mostly focused on antivax sentiments and the trucker convoy people. But similar to MAGA, it’s woven in with conspiracy theories, antisemitism, queerphobia, and all the rest. The new premier of Alberta, Danielle Smith, has already had to apologize three times for saying antisemitic and racist things, and she’s not even sworn in yet. She got elected on a platform of passing a “sovereignty act” which is tantamount to seceding from the country on paper. It’ll never pass legal challenges of course and it’s all bluster, but the attitudes are there.

I really hope the tide turns on this stuff before Canada gets infected any further with this darkest form of American soft power.

Is Alberta becoming the Florida of Canada? Or perhaps the Texas?

It was always the Texas of Canada. Oil & gas, cowboys, and racism. The trifecta. It was the province most vulnerable to the MAGA message and they are taking the bait in my childhood home.

White cowboys. I say that because the more I read about the awesome history of Black cowboys the more I think this distinction needs to be made – especially in the U.S. but also (since American iconography always travels north) in Canada.

I would argue the Native component makes it more like Oklahoma than Texas.

(It also had cameos from Milo Yiannoplous, and Mike Lindell, among others.)

Gods, that was a fucking terrible film. I actually watched it and will never get those two hours of my life back.

Here’s my initial notes I wrote about it a while back:

And here’s my extended analysis:

Please don’t waste any of the precious time you have in life watching this garbage. It’s not even worth hate watching. If you must watch it, do it in such a way that doesn’t line the pockets of anybody involved in its production.

I couldn’t bring myself to actually watch it, but I swiped through it and everything was color graded with a heavy blue bias. It was quite gross, but not as icky as the piss-soaked yellow/brown color grading that seems to be common these days.

Oh don’t worry. I have zero interest in actually watching it. I just found the cast interesting and consequently added a few actors to my shit list.

I don’t know if this factoid carries over, because I’m not a photographer or filmmaker, but with regard to laundry you add bluing to the wash if you’re washing white items, because the blue makes them appear brighter white.

And now I wonder if blue bias in the color would make brown skin look darker as well. A two-fer!

Yellow, huh? So then, what’s the blue about?

Those are good reads, thanks.

And Mexican cowboys! Few Americans will admit this, but 90% of the cowboy look, image, horsemanship, and mythos comes whole cloth from travelling ranch hands on Mexican ranchos and haciendas. They started moving north to work on the big southwestern US ranches, and white people appropriated the culture. Until then white ranchers were all spats and bowler hats, brought with them from the east coast.

Yuuup, most of it came from the Mexican vaqueros. Yet somehow the right wing constantly blames non-whites for diluting “our” culture?

Oh, that’s a shame. I was always a cooter fan.

Ugh, the “Mexico is yellow because it’s a shithole” thing is way out of hand in Hollywood. It’s the Wilhelm Scream of colour correction for me. As soon as it appears, the movie/show is ruined for me. Takes me right out of the moment.
