Because youngs can’t be bothered texting an extra word?
I gotta be honest… I might buy a shirt that says, “I WANT THE D.”
Noted prophet Denis Leary predicted this 21 years ago.

Dunk nuts in, Do
Shouldn’t they have held it a bit tighter when they Dunked the Donut if they dropped it? That’s going to ruin the drink.
We call it “Dunks” in Upstate NY.
Now that I look at that in text, well… It doesn’t look too appealing. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I’m in the Boston area, and “Dunks” or “Dunkies” is pretty standard. Sometimes “Dunkins”. Never its full name.
But why? Like seriously, why do this? They’re not known for their coffee by many folks or really anyone. This move is going to scuttle them for sure.
From Quartz Media:
“It’s a move that’s highly reflective of the food culture we live in: one that is simultaneously terrified by and obsessed with food. In this culture, a donut can mean many things to many different people. Eating one may be an act of transgression, a source of shame, a cheat-day binge, an addiction carried out in secret, or a treat that’s been earned after a grueling workout. But while we may eat donuts, we sure as hell don’t want to broadcast that fact by way of the logo on our coffee cup or grease-stained brown paper bag. That would make us look weak.”
They could always just serve products in plain black bags like so many state liquor stores do in the U.S…
Shame.

Alternative headline: Dunkin’ Donuts dunks Donuts
A lot of reasons:
• They’re trying to push a hipper, healthier, cooler image, introducing nitro cold brew and more low-fat offerings, and “donuts” doesn’t fit that, in their opinion.
• They sell WAY more coffee than donuts. They aren’t known as a coffee place the way Starbucks is, but that’s mostly what they sell there, and coffee makes much more money for them than baked goods.
• Most people just call them Dunkin’s or Dunkies anyway.
The last Dunkin Donuts - I hesitate to abbreviate their name - left the Northwest 10 years ago. Haven’t missed them a bit. The new chains and independent shops that have replaced them are much better.
I used to work until 3am, and picking up a fresh donut on the way home was part of my schedule. Straight out of the cooker, either a cinnamon fried cake, or lemon filled.
Then they stopped making them in the store, and having them shipped in from out of state. I never went back, if I wanted a day old donut I’d go to 7-11.
Dunkin’ Donuts dropping the donuts seems like a repeat of Radio Shack dropping the radio. Look where that got them.
Great! It hardly feels like an IHOB publicity gimmick at all!
I can avoid Dunkin’ just as easily as I now avoid Dunkin’ Donuts.
