The future ainât what it used to be.
And itâs so unevenly distributed!
âIâm not, in candor, a fan of calling each other âweirdâ or names, I donât think that advanced American democracy,â the California US House representative said during a live event with the Guardian at the Texas Tribune festival Saturday in Austin. âI think we have to â in this country, and as a party â not just win, but deserve victory. And to deserve victory means to offer a vision that is going to bring this country together with a common purpose.â
So, itâs just fine for the GOP to LITERALLY call for rounding people up and eliminating entire groups from the US population, but democrats calling that shit out for what it is just goes too farâŚ
he realized âitâs not fashionable anymoreâ to do as his fellow Democrat and former first lady Michelle Obama once said: âWhen they go low, we go high.â But he said former Democratic presidents like Barack Obama and John F Kennedy Jr âwere inspirational figures and inspirationâ, and he added: âI still think that wins for a nation thatâs hungry for some kind of new common purpose.â
And lots of white people melted down after we had a Black President and elected a fascist in response⌠he seems to have forgotten that factâŚ
âIâm a classical liberal. I believe in free speech. I believe in persuasion. I believe that in this country you can still persuade people.â
For the most part, Democratic politicians are just calling Republican candidates like Trump and Vance weird, not Republican voters. And for the rest of us, Iâm only calling the MAGA cult weird. Because it fucking is.
By the way, Liz Cheney called out Nikki Haley today for endorsing Trump after saying he was unqualified to be President during the primaries. She didnât call her weird, but she did say âI canât understand her position on this in any kind of a principled way.â
So howâs the persuading people been going, Khanna? Also, what exactly is âcivic religionâ thatâs supposed to bring everyone together?
That sounds weird.
It means âIâm a right-libertarian who wants to steal the word âliberalâ from the Left because they canât be allowed to have anything, including words to describe themselves withâ.
This is all opinion, but it seems to me like âliberalâ has drifted into more of a centrist or center-left position. While they agree that changes are needed, they appear more or less okay with the status quo.
I canât identify with âliberalâ any more (even though I was one for much of my life), because Iâve become more aware of how the status quo âworksâ and how itâs been grossly influenced by systemic biases-- rascism, sexism, classism, etc. I feel like we need major upgrades to all our institutions, even if Iâm not sure how to make it happen. That, to me, feels more like a leftist point of view.
But everyone has their own definitions of these terms, and Iâve still got a LOT to learn about politics and political theory.
Well, mine of liberal versus leftist certainly accords with yours.
Of course, it depends on context too. I use âliberalsâ to describe those in the US who are fine with trying to fine-tune capitalism. Those I would describe as âleftistsâ think weâd be better off with well-run socialism, or if theyâre further left, with well-run communism. Both of which would require, yes, major upgrades to all of our institutions.
You have to cut the guy some slack. His train schedule was only off by 8 years. /S
Dude literally time traveled 8 years into future to tell us that negotiating with fascists is not a losing game.
In my experience, when Americans say âclassical liberalâ they mean what the rest of the world means with âliberalâ and what Americans call âlibertarianâ.
Jill Stein Instagram Account caught liking comments telling supporters to vote Trump if not her
Itâs actually shameful what these spoilers have become. Theyâre nothing more than another cog in the Russian propaganda scheme to get Trump elected. If this doesnât show horseshoe theory is real idk what will.

When did the Green Party become libertarian? I say that because the only explanation I can come up with for why someone in the Green Party would claim that Democrats are waging a war on Democracy, especially in connection with Jill Stein, is that theyâre anti-vaxxer COVID deniers who think the government shouldnât be able to mandate that people do anything. And thatâs a libertarian view. And itâs the polar opposite of who the Green Party used to be.
At some point, the âgreenâ in Green Party started to stand forâŚ
