man, my neighbor, my barber, many of my friends here on this island are Puerto Rican. i am actually embarrassed. i want to hug each one of them and apologize. that was so goddamn ugly, i feel dirtied by it and utterly disgusted.
i can hear their kids outside, playing in their yard right now, and i just want to cry.
i feel shamed, but they all know that i do not hold those racist beliefs. i can’t help but feel like i, too, am insulted, and i am. it is not about me being insulted, but how speech like Hincliffe’s reflect on us that angers me the most.

The crowd inside Madison Square Garden was predominantly white, with a significant number of Latinos. Many groaned at Mr. Hinchcliffe’s insult to Puerto Rico. Still, he told a tasteless, vulgar joke about the size of Hispanic families, mentioned watermelons as he called out a Black man in the audience and mocked Palestinians as rock-throwers and Jews as cheapskates.

In the final tally, the Liberal Democratic Party ended up with 191 seats, while Komeito ended up with 24, putting the ruling coalition short of the 233 seats needed for a majority.
The Constitutional Democratic Party was the big winner of the night, ending up with 148 seats.
Any coalition to be made will surely be tenuous.

Regarding that $1.4 billion he ‘made’, if you take his $400MM inheritance and put it in modern dollars it would be about $1.5 billion. He earned nothing.

And truly, making lots of money should be an indicator against being fit for public service. It is rare for people to make millions or billions ethically. The people who do have rare stellar talents, like Dolly Parton.
Government is not a business. It is very specifically the anti-thesis of a business! All the money coming in should damned well be going back out and the “customers” the highest priority. Governments shouldn’t be profit makers. If they are, they aren’t doing the job of governing.
