Elizabeth Warren quits race

An extremely competent woman. The US has proven that they think a breathing man is preferable to any woman regardless of experience or ability.

But they’ll deride any claims of sexism as “made up”.

Biden and Sanders have both done OK very recently with book deals and speaking fees, but mainly the two of them have been middle class most of their lives.

For values of “harmless” that include starting a war that killed a million civilians, displaced millions more and created ISIS, and ramping up the war on drugs for decades, sure.

He wasn’t always.
ETA: And compared to what four more years of Trump would bring.
Also, he’s harmless in the way that Bernie or Warren would not have been: no major shake ups to anyone with power or wealth.

My guess would be some mix of sexism, being so worried about sexism ruining her chances in the general election that you pre-emptively vote for a man instead, and not all that many people actually caring about detailed policy plans.

Just as important as the presidential race:

Yup, this is very important. It’s also part of why I think, everything else aside, the calls for either Sanders or Warren to be included as a VP are foolish. They’re both far more valuable in the Senate than as mostly-powerless VP.

Don’t you had enough out of touch TV celebrities ?

Fucking sucks, but the voters also suck. Right-leaning independents are more likely to vote for old white guys. Small consolation, but it makes it more likely that Trump gets voted out. Sort of like my dropping 401k values also mean that we are more likely to get rid of Trump.

There is a lot of speculation and hand-wringing about, “Will we ever have a woman president?”. Yes we will. Clinton won the popular vote, proving that it is feasible and can happen. It is just a matter of time, and a question of who it is going to be. Heck, it could be Warren in 2024.

I don’t want Biden or Trump to be president, but I would pay lots of money to see them in a boxing ring.

That one was a joke. But seriously - if Oprah can help secure a win - bring her the hell in!!!

I honestly think that Warren wasn’t charismatic enough. I think people underestimate the role personality plays in who people stack up behind. This is a trait probably most difficult to cultivate - you have it or you don’t.

There’s a lot to unpack there since women are judged by completely different criteria on what counts as “charismatic.” Often they are condemned for exhibiting the very same traits that their male counterparts are praised for.

Oh, no… it’s all in our pretty little heads… /s

To be clear - Warren would be my #1 choice by far. I’m just trying to understand why the best candidate doesn’t equal votes. This article explains it a bit better perhaps: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/04/elizabeth-warrens-charisma-didnt-suddenly-disappear/586690/

I put it down to a combination of sexism and either subtle or explicit directives from media corporation heads to submarine any coverage positive because they didn’t like her plans for taxing them and making them play fair. You’ll note that Bernie had a similar spell of media silence before his showings in Iowa and New Hampshire made it impossible not to pay attention to him.

I hope she gives it another shot in four years.

He’s telling the wrong lies?

I am a grumpy old man (and loved that movie) maybe that’s why I like Bernie more and more each day?
