Elizabeth Warren quits race

I can’t find the equivalent for Biden.

Yeah, if either Bernie or Warren had made it to the White House, we’d still need the other in the Senate. I think Warren would make a great Senate Majority Leader. The presidency isn’t the only important position in our government. McConnell has shown how important the majority leader can be in saving or fucking us over.

If that’s true then people are being delusional - Biden has been an embarrassment his entire carrier. Trump voters don’t want a democrat for president - the fact that Bernie is seen as outside the DNC machine is exactly why he has the ability to actually reach some of those people - and it wouldn’t take much to swing the election.

“Mr. Biden is known for being both talkative and prone to making the kind of statements that get him in trouble. In 2007, when he was competing for Mr. Obama for the presidential nomination, he declared that Mr. Obama was “not yet ready” for the presidency.”
snip
“He has a long history of making statements that get him in trouble. He was forced to apologize to Mr. Obama almost the moment he entered the race for president after he was quoted as describing Mr. Obama as “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” a remark that drew criticism for being racially insensitive. While campaigning in New Hampshire, Mr. Biden said that “you cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.””

They’re both old white men. This is the answer:

Biden/Castro or Harris

Sanders/Castro or Harris

Oof, that hurts. I really liked Warren. Even if she wasn’t as progressive as I would have liked, she was able to back up all of her policy proposals with hard data which I can really appreciate. It wasn’t just “this is what I want to do”, it was, “this is what I want to do, and this is how I will make it happen.” I hope Bernie pulls through but it’s looking more and more likely we’ll have Biden as our candidate… and that just sucks.

Who are the Bernie Bros going to blame now if they don’t get their way?

Putting this somewhere it will stand for awhile:
America Punished Elizabeth Warren for Her Competence

Are you sure?

It would certainly be exciting and get lots of free press coverage.

The media covers ever crazy thing Trump says, because it’s crazy and gets eyeballs. Imagine the eyeballs this would get.

It is really just a handful of states that matter–those that went Trump narrowly. probably Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Ohio, florida, and (possibly) texas. A democrat needs to flip ~35 electoral votes to win, which is Texas, or Florida + one other, or 3-4 of the others. They have been polling head-to-head trump versus others in each of those states for the last few months, and you can see them here:

I think the last results are from before Biden had his south carolina surge, but he was beating trump (narrowly) in all of the above but Wisconsin and probably Ohio (and even Texas according to one poll). Sanders is typically about 2-points behind biden vs. trump, and loses to trump in texas. Warren was behind them both in most states. Notice that of all of these states, only Texas has voted in the primaries and the process it is just about over–This is the stupidest travesty about the whole endeavor.

Many of these polls are within margins of error, and the campaign has yet to be waged, so nobody knows what will happen. So many of these are so close that a +2 point advantage may make the difference though. I don’t think people are looking at Biden’s policies and comparing them to sanders and saying "i like that better’. They are saying “he’s the guy who has the best chance of beating trump”, so they are getting behind him. This is why Romney, H. Clinton, McCain, Kerry, Gore, and many other losers were selected as well (along with some winners like Bush Sr), so the DNC really needs to go Moneyball analytics and find a better way of picking their candidate. I don’t think people can look at the current numbers and think Sanders is currently in a better position to beat trump than biden is, and that matters to a lot of people.

Does this matter anymore?

If we’ve learned anything from the current situation, this type of thing only matters if you let it bother you. If you can bring yourself to feel no shame and have no care, you can just ignore anything that would break a norm and create embarrassment. Just push on and not care seems to be the lesson.

Which also points out how terrifying it is learning that our government functions (or did) so much on social norms with nothing else behind them.

I like it. During the VP debates Mike Pence would just start slapping himself and no one would know why.

Plus, if Biden did start to slip then the Professor could take over without anyone even noticing.

The people who want trump out and have no other concerns will vote for a turnip if it’s running. They don’t have to court those votes. The only candidate (left) that brings any excitement outside of ‘remove trump’ is Bernie.

As I said in the last election - I’ll vote - my state will be blue - and that isn’t going to change - but I don’t see anything changing with Biden running - hatred of the other guy is not the Democrat field house - that’s a Republican thing - hate doesn’t excite people to go vote on the D side.

It has always amazed me how much of Americans dislike being educated. I went to a prestige HS and I always saw 1/3 of my class ask to copy homework answers from Straight A students.

I’ve also seen TA’s as well as teachers claim that math isn’t needed much beyond a 5th grade level with astounds me.

Bailey, meanwhile, has his own opinions on this it seems.

I fail to see how having the top contenders be two old rich white guys is significantly worse than having the top contenders be one old rich white guy and one old rich white woman.

Not really all that faint, since Trump is actually one of Satan’s fingernails.

I think you meant Warren-Haley

We’ve had lots of Presidents who brought the experience of being an old rich white guy with them to the job. We have yet to have a single President who brought the experience of being a woman—rich, white or otherwise.

It’s a simple thing that is a long, long time overdue.

I’m not American either, so it has been mystifying why she disappeared from all news over here (UK) for many weeks now. What happened? Did she just not raise enough money? Was Bernie’s occupation of much of the same ground the issue? Did she have a much worse organisation than Bernie (and others)? She always seemed to me, from afar, to be much the best candidate.

There’s a difference between caring about Benghazi and caring about owning the libs. Sort of like how appalling misogynists are so critical of Bill Clinton’s treatment of women.

If those people were genuinely concerned with Benghazi they might have noticed the dozens of investigations that fingered sequestration driven funding cuts forced by a GOP congress as the cause. Including the GOP’s own reports on the subject which said exactly that.

In my experience people aren’t uninformed about the reality of these things. They’re just unconcerned about the actual core issues, and looking for ammunition in an argument.
