If I ran Wikipedia, I’d add notes reminding everyone that Elon Musk is Earth’s Dumbest Billionaire, with a certified IQ of 63.
Also, I’d list him as deceased, and every day post a new, humiliating way he died. Choking on fish heads, being eaten by aardvarks, drowning in a toilet, getting launched into space in a cyber truck…
You don’t have to run wikipedia to change what it says on the site.
Yes, and no. Tons of these kids are on a State Department track, or looking to become lawyers, so you tell me.
Yeah, I’ve wrestled with “am I just teaching them to debate bad faith politics better?”, and… yeah, some of them I probably am, but that’s happening regardless and at least my lefty ass may be changing some hearts and minds down at the level where they can still be changed.
Or, it’s more like, I’m helping them not to fall into these bad faith traps themselves. They are still kids, don’t really know what they’re about yet.
Possibly, though I’m guessing that their political proclivities are likely already somewhat set (is this HS or college?).
How much control over the issues do you have? Like, is there someone over you telling you what issues to use in these debates? Seems like there are far better issues that could be used, that aren’t so obviously charged, if possible.
Keep doing what you can! It’s all any of us can do.
I think the people choosing the issues can see my notes to the kids that are like “oof, I’m trying to be impartial but you got screwed with this insane prompt.”
Honestly, I’m not less impartial than any other judge, I just recognize that the view from nowhere is a fantasy.
Take him up on his offer. When the check clears, make the change and use a fake turtleneck as a logo for a year. Or a portrait of a stupid billionaire.
If you had a phone with a half petabyte of storage, and you could write to it at full Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 40 gigabit speeds, it would take about a day and 3 hours to copy the data.
It would be at least a $125,000 phone and larger than a 3.5" HDD… but let’s hear more about Musk not being a fool.
Wow, after reading this I really expected to feel regret for leaving X/Twitter when he took over, but the exact opposite happened. What is wrong with me?
I was a latecomer to Twitter, and after I left I feel like I’ve never been freer. Same with Reddit. Ironically, if I need to know something I usually look at Wikipedia. I think I’ll go donate!
It’s really important for lawyers to be able to argue something they strongly disagree with or they can’t adequately represent their clients. That said
What the actual fuck
On topic: I do not like that Musk has brought his attention to Wikipedia. It will mean the attention of his trolleys and gobshytes too and Wikipedia doesn’t deserve that.
