Elon Musk sued by cave rescuer he called a "child rapist" then dared to sue

Egads, I fucking hope so; someone perpetually fanboying that hard over anything Musk-related, it would be sad if there was no actual personal benefit being gained.

On the one hand, Elon Musk publicly and repeatedly accused someone of being a pedophile with no evidence and then dared the man to sue him.

On the other hand, the man finally took him up on the offer and sued him.

So you can see there are really two sides to every story.

Don’t forget that Musk initially apologized, and only doubled down after someone else pissed him off by bringing it up again.

Read Ashlee Vance’s biography on the Ego Maniac carefully -most people just skim and read the articles about the book-because then you’ll know Elon was NEVER abused:

His father used to give him and his brother long, unwanted lectures like, you know how EVERY PARENT DOES

That infamous beat down he got in high school that’s used as citation for his childhood “abuse”–even his mother admitted he likely had it coming with him being “unafraid to tell people things”

He liked to shoot his mouth off and talked shit then as now, which makes me wonder if there’s another beat down coming, security be damned…

Looking more that way since he’s been trying to walk back the whole pedo thing recently.

Irrelevant, as Musk can’t magically detect a pedophile.

Of course not. You would need a special detector.

Ken White seems to imply the same, that the case may or may not meet US defamation standards, but the UK courts will be less forgiving. Worth reading for White’s trademark snark in the first paragraph alone…

That sounds plausible, but if I were the offended party and wanted to “ward off the ‘just trying to get rich’ attacks”, I would sue for, say, $2M, and pledge that 99% of it would go to charity.

Not the most important worry for him right now.

Elon Musk’s publicists exist, and they are legion. He is a brand, and somewhere between 99.9 and 100% of the value he adds to the companies he’s invested in is the Elon Musk brand, and both he (while sane) and those companies’ boards protect it like a dragon guards its treasure hoard.

It’s not shameful that he has an army of publicists and social media influencers and viral moment-makers and (lately) damage control teams working for him, of course. That’s business these days, especially the business he’s in, where–and this cannot be stressed enough–his job is as a hype man. He doesn’t code. He doesn’t build. He’s not a roboticist. He doesn’t design the factories. He can’t change the space age oil on his Tesla. That’s fine.

But if you’re wondering why he insists he doesn’t have PR people, it’s for the same reason that David Copperfield insists he really can make the Statue of Liberty disappear: because it kinda craps on the illusion if you just come right out and admit it’s an illusion.

And they shouldn’t be fired; they should be knighted, or given hazard pay, or rewarded in whatever fashion is traditional in the publicity industry. They shoveled back the rising tide of toxic fame syndrome for longer than anyone had a right to expect. I’d say it to their faces–in fact, I am, since a huge part of their job is to monitor and, where useful, run influence campaigns on every piddly little internet discussion thread that mentions Musk. (Cheers, folks!) Of course they’re not the only ones who do such things–other professionally famous people pay for the same services–but they do it as skillfully as the increasingly shitty hand they’ve been dealt will allow.

That would make so much sense;
I can totally grok it, if these randos that just pop up out of the freakin’ ether fanboying out of control do so because they are actually being compensated in some form or another.

On the other hand, I cannot even fathom stanning that hard for anyone for free…

Was using 420 as the valuation a joke in this tweet that is now being investigated by the DOJ?

Oh really.

Not “innocent”? So what the fuck was he guilty of?

I don’t like Elon Musk, but I have known too many of the expats who participate in the SE Asia sex trade to just discount it completely. American and British guys go overseas to get themselves their own little Melania brides, or worse.

That’s your objective take? The so-called “hero”, who had nothing to do with the rescue, was nonetheless there. Doing what exactly? …

Oh yeah, that’s right - he sees Musk, and explodes at him, accusing him of doing nothing more than a PR stunt (remember, the head of the rescue team called Musk, not the other way around, and gave him specs for the sub. Musk then got the job done, and then traveled halfway around the world to deliver it)

And then, Mr Hero and All Around Nice Guy told Musk to shove the sub up his ass.

Your conclusion? Musk is the asshole.

Got it.

Exactly so.

The guy was an asshole to Musk. Musk was an asshole to the guy. (And an idiot for doing it.) That’s the story.

Not " Elon Musk sued by cave rescuer he called a “child rapist” then dared to sue"

Yes - really. With an e-mail trail to prove it.

That’s right burllamb, that’s my objective take:

Musk is an asshole.

Perhaps you should rethink your time spent worshiping CEOs.

There’s not much more to it burllamb. Have a nice day!
