Elon Musk takes control of Twitter, fires top management

Yes, you’ve made that clear. You’d rather the likes of Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk do it instead.

Remember, corporations are accountable to nobody. You’re terrified of government, that much is clear, but consider the alternatives. We’ve spent thousands of years creating democratic structures that are transparent, accountable, and changeable as needed specifically to solve problems like this. If you don’t like democracy or are afraid of it, other options exist, but I don’t think you’ll like them.

Well shit, I guess we’re just fucked then. If only we had a framework of laws that override the whims of changing governments so that the parents of children who got murdered didn’t have to put up with Alex Jones and his followers and all the other countless bald faced lies that get people killed. Oh well.

Just remember, that’s what we’re talking about here. We are not talking about people with the “wrong” opinions. We are talking about the Alex Joneses out there, and there are a lot of them.

You know, Republicans are out there trying to get rid of books mentioning LGBTQ people right now. Somehow the fact that they have been given “free speech” to hate and harrass those people hasn’t kept them from moving on to censorship. It might even have made it easier for them, almost like trying to tolerate all speech is self-defeating.

Look back on this thread. This is your pattern:

  1. You state position A
  2. Half a dozen people in this thread rebut position A
  3. Ignoring those rebuttals, you state position B
  4. Half a dozen people rebut position B
  5. Again you choose not to engage those rebuttals, and restate position A

This is not debate, it’s just you wanting to speak to an audience. I get it- I like to hear myself talk too (clearly).

However if you’re interested in moving the ball forward on an interesting and complex social issue, you need to actually listen to the things a room full of people are saying to you and counter those points if you disagree. Restating old positions is not countering.

The only thing I can deduce from what you’ve said so far is “government is bad, but I don’t have better ideas”. That’s an advocation for nothing more than anarchy or perhaps cyberpunk corporate oligarchy.

And anarchy would be “no rulers”, not “no rules”.

He’s still trying to figure out a business that provides a product to people for free, but on the other hand, the product is content given to them for free by those people. So long as that wheel keeps spinning fast enough, it’s a going concern, profitability aside.

Moderation, by suspending, blocking, or adjustment by algorithm, is the quality control on that product.

As many observers have pointed out in various articles, the moderation and curation of posts basically is the product, as the technology that allows users to post unfiltered public messages for all to see is very basic and easily copied these days.

Yes, but does Elon understand that?

Of course! He’s a genius! I know this for a fact because the voices inside my head told me so!

And for those who are paying, it’s going to be “same great price, now with more ads!”

Not that any of this self-destructive flailing about is going to do much to pay back Prince Bonesaw’s clan.

Just look at the Supreme Court hearing yesterday on affirmative action. The conservative majorities questions don’t bode well. I hear they’ll decide Thursday & then assign someone to draft it. Here’s hoping that decision leaks too.

I always suspected that Musk never read “The Mythical Man-Month”. Now I know it for sure.

Musk combines the worst aspects of AAA game studio tech management (esp. unrealistic deadlines and eternal crunch time) and Jack Welch’s “rank-and-yank” system.

I know! We’ll get nine women on it, and the baby will be ready in a month!

(Billy Wilder had James Cagney make that joke in One, Two, Three. Must be as old as project management itself. Which goes back at least to the Pyramids or Stonehenge. Or where ever/whenever it was somebody had the idea to build something that needed coordinating more than two people and some materials or other.)

Again, another thing anyone running a business knows would be absolutely disastrous to actual productivity. These moves do two things: A) find the “loyal” managers while sowing discord and distrust in the ranks to prevent any kind of cohesive internal resistance B) get the free “look how I’m cleaning up this place” media to fundraise off of. Capitalists love sociopathic, anti-labor moves, and word about how draconian they are no doubt juices the stocks.

And, if he wants to slash the workforce, it’s a good way to get them quitting rather than having to fire them.
