Word; enough viable lawsuits get filed, and action will be taken.
Local code enforcement officials showed up almost immediately to inspect the sign but were repeatedly denied access to the building. The company apparently tried to placate one by assuring them it was just a “temporary sign” for an “event.”
Not sure where the situation with the city stands today but it seems unlikely that’s gonna fly with officials.
ETA: The city issued a notice of code violation the same day the sign went up, which is a pretty swift response as such things go.
Christ, what an X-hole.
Boots and pants and boots and pants…
… from now on when “enforcement officials” want stuff from me I’ll just “deny them access”
What is it with billionaires and garish displays?
We get it already. We don’t need to see a giant blinking reminder that your mouth is too big or that your penis is too short. We haven’t forgotten the last ten poor decisions you’ve made, and aren’t likely to since we’re adding this as #11.
And no, you’re not succeeding at drawing attention away from your oft-indicted fuhrer. Unlike your fanbois, we can actually follow more than one evil narcissist at a time.
One more case study in how our society is not equipped to deal with out-of-control billionaires.
There are remedies for situations like this, but most are based on the premise that a business owner is a rational actor who would take action to avoid huge financial penalties. They don’t really work on a guy who dropped $44 Billion on a whim because he wants everyone to pay attention to him.
If my ad-hoc media studies knowledge is serving me correctly; it’s practically mandatory for the techno-barbarian warlord to be crudely affixed to his monstrous scrap-idol before its destruction in the last 15 minutes or so of the movie.
Might be more efficient than hoping code enforcement catches up with the situation.
Looks like the video was taken from the Fox plaza apartment tower, which is one of the few towers covered by rent control in San Francisco, since it was built before the cutoff. Many residents have lived there for decades and can’t afford to move.
I considered living there, but it had the vibe of a place where management is openly hostile to the residents, to get them to move out. Uncleaned urine in an elevator for instance.
I wouldn’t be unsympathetic if this pushed some residents over the edge.
When I was living in another SF tower, a tower a block away installed the wrong lights for their senior center patio, aimed horizontally toward my apartment rather than down at the their patio. Nowhere near as offensive as the strobing X, but they lit my apartment so brightly that I couldn’t sleep. When I went into the senior center and explained the situation, they were totally cool and quickly put makeshift covers on the lights to solve the issue.
Elon is not cool.
Nah, rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic is just useless, not directly harmful. This is more like replacing sections of the hull with gold plated ones while the ship is sinking (and no, not the damaged ones).
More like “X, what an asshole”.
I mean, it worked for the Beatles. For a song or two.
edited to add: If you haven’t seen “Get Back” the scenes are really great where the cop politely argues with the doorman and secretary who are trying to stall him.
Musk’s sign burns with the light of $44B.
