I think after four years we’ve reached the point where they really don’t care if their libels are refuted five minutes after they are printed. It doesn’t matter if the stories are obviously batshit crazy. The target audience either won’t see the refutation, or won’t care. They can’t be sued because there is no expectation of Truth, just like Tucker Carlson’s verdict.
If it weren’t for social media’s lukewarm campaign against this, I think we’d have full-on QAnon manifestos posted on Trump’s twitter hourly in a continuous cycle.

So how does this effect the election? The play in 2016 was to talk about Hilary Clinton’s emails for years beforehand and then the week before the election “Whoa we found more emails! or maybe we didn’t”. Arguably that play worked. The play here is to talk about Hunter Biden for year and then right before the election “Whoa Hunter Biden!”. Do we expect Christopher Wray to make an announcement about it next week? Will this have the same effect as in 2016?
I feel like the October Surprise of 2016 gave people who didn’t want to vote for Hilary the excuse they were looking for. I’m not sure that works in this case as Biden has much more positive favorability than Clinton did.
Is the twitter ban effectively limiting the impact of this story? I don’t Facebook or twitter so I can’t tell how those social medias are reflecting this story.

It’s a particularly galling sentiment given his history with the New York Five. If only we could find some meaningful difference between the accused? (other than the difference of actual innocence, of course)
But, at least it’s another high-profile case that’s going to be used to reinforce our courts treating minors like adults, so at least it’s also got that shitty outcome in store as well.
