Unless I’m misunderstanding WP, a McMillan TAC-50 is an anti-materiel rifle, and an anti-tank rifle is a type of AMR?
Honestly asking, I don’t know guns.

With a TAC-50, you can shoot a single person accurately from ~2 km away. That makes it a good tool for sniping.
It uses a 12,7 × 99 mm BMG round which comes as regular ball (full metal jacket), tracer, armor-piercing (AP), incendiary, and saboted sub-caliber rounds. So you can use it to make holes in lots of stuff.
The whole distinction between “anti-personnel” and “anti-materiel” is
a) fuzzy at best
b) window-dressing to make things seem a bit nicer, not so grim and all that death-y and maim-y
(My personal favourite in this field is the “limited nuclear exchange”. Ideally using neutron bombs, ever so much less messy.)
At the end of the day, weapons are tools designed to destroy things, and in military logic, enemy soldiers are things. There are some rules, which may or may not be adhered to. (Keep in mind that wounding an enemy soldier is more efficient than killing them, all things considered, as it ties up more resources.)

Also, those rifles cost about $12,000. Ammo for it is at least $3.50 per cartridge. Why does this matter? To have something like this means to not have lots of other things, like, say… dentures for the gaps.

Maybe they’re posting a fake story to get a reaction (I can’t say the t-word without running afoul of the moderation filter)? But based on their reddit posting history and the details in the account, I tend to believe this actually occurred. Totally get others may be skeptical.
