17-yo shooter carries deadly rifle to protests in Kenosha, gets verbal support from the police monitoring the event, murders a couple of protesters, walks back past police without getting stopped (in fact, they TELL HIM TO GET OUT OF THERE) and drives away to Illinois.
Good for him that he wasn’t an unarmed black man who continued walking away after being asked to stop for no reason.
A lot of the time, the things he wanted to do not only were impossible, but in many cases illegal. He didn’t want us to tell them it was illegal anymore because he knew that there were, and these were his words — he knew that he had “magical authorities.”
Well there’s a crowd who think the laws don’t apply to them running things. we gotta get them out of power and then pressure the new people to actual be accountable. If the power dynamic remains as it is nothing will change. i know im preaching to the choir here…
So long as enforcement lies in the hands of the Executive, though, there doesn’t seem to be any means through which to enforce laws broken by the Executive. We have moved so far beyond Nixon now.
The Trump administration has been thumbing their collective noses at the Hatch Act since day 1, basically. Mark Meadows isn’t even trying to hide it - he’s basically come right out and says, “nobody cares”.
I care. I don’t want my tax dollars paying for these fucking people to enrich themselves by allowing them to campaign on my dime, and this is exactly what they are doing.
The OSC, the very body charged with enforcing the Hatch Act has done fuck all about the many violations of Trump’s cabinet over the past several years.
" Henry Kerner is an American lawyer who serves as the Special Counsel in the United States Office of Special Counsel."
“In June 2017, President Donald Trump nominated Kerner to become Special Counsel at the United States Office of Special Counsel. He was confirmed by the 115th Congress with final voting from the U.S. Senate in October 2017.”
“Nobody thought that he was even going to win,” Trump said. “Because his debate performances were so bad. Frankly, his best performance was against Bernie. We’re going to call for a drug test, by the way, because his best performance was against Bernie. It wasn’t that he was Winston Churchill because he wasn’t, but it was a normal, boring debate. You know, nothing amazing happened. And we are going to call for a drug test because there’s no way — you can’t do that.”
