So it was a fragment of his imagination? /s
yeah, it’s hardly a miracle to be nicked by a bullet, or a piece of shrapnel. that’s god not paying attention
a real miracle would be the attempt not happening in the first place. or say, ending the nra’s blockade on sensible gun control. and seriously, we could use some divine intervention there
( not to mention the person who died, and the two critically injured. that’s certainly the opposite of a miracle )
bone-spurs you say!
Well it’s not supposed to tumble until after it hits something.
I’m surprised that nobody has chimed in about using the word “shrapnel,” which originally referred to a particular type of artillery shell filled with individual, spherical projectiles. It functioned kind of like a giant, sawed off shotgun fired at the enemy and the went off with a time fuze. But linguistically, that ship has sailed, and shrapnel is often used to refer to shell fragments.
It is a bit hilarious to see everyone hold their breath waiting to know if Trump was hit by a real bullet, a fragment, or some debris. To some people that matters.
Member of the Armed Forces that are injured by any of these get a Purple Heart, assuming the wound requires treatment by a medical officer. Not that Trump qualifies as a civilian nor was he participating directly or indirectly in combat.
I don’t like Trump. I think he’s not just a horrible person, but a dangerous one. But I will admit that his life was seriously at risk during that assassination attempt. That he was hit in the ear is luck. If it missed him entirely then it might have been more difficult to milk the attempt on his life. A few inches the other way, and we’d be having a very different conversation.
But what is ridiculous about the politics is that he’s being treated like a hero. Rather than lucky. I guess any victim of gun violence should feel a certain euphoria from surviving. But the problem with this idiot is he isn’t going to look at this as a gun problem and try to solve it, despite being in the perfect position of power and influence to do so.
Trump: “No, it was, unfortunately, a bullet that hit my ear, and hit it hard. There was no glass, there was no shrapnel."
Dr. Jackson** said Monday that he checked out Trump’s ear the morning before the first day of the RNC, adding that the bullet “just took the top of his ear off” as it whizzed past the former president. Trump was seen with a large bandage over his ear during the convention on Monday. “He was lucky,” Jackson said on The Benny Show.
Latest post-shooting image:
new theory: he was hit by a bullet, but his head’s so thick it bounced right off. the ear, being more delicate in its nature, however, was not so lucky.
Anything of a delicate nature that’s attached to him in any possible way is unlucky.
You laugh, but . . .
Shrapnel was a type of artillery shell invented by a British general whose name was Shrapnel.
Here in the UK we sometimes use “shrapnel” to describe pocket change, especially when you’ve got too much and want to get rid of it, so you pay for something with a handful of coppers and silver, which makes the casher’s job harder and you apologise to them for causing difficulty.
I expect that usage is declining since Britain has largely converted to cashless transactions over the past 10 years.
This was going around for a while, but I think the photos of the wound are fairly self-explanatory… he certainly got hit by something that caused a minor ear injury. The FBI is now also confirming that he was probably grazed by a bullet, which seems most likely.
What I find most disturbing about this now is that in the absence of any sort of political motivation this seems like “just another shooting in america” — a bullied white kid with easy gun access tried to make a name for himself… the same people who’ve always called for better gun control continue screaming into the void, and the rest of the country mostly shrugs it off.
He wasn’t bullied. Research has shown that mass shooters typically aren’t bullied, against the false narrative that started with Columbine.
from what I’ve read it seems far from conclusive in either case, but if you have sources on this I’d be happy to read them and adjust my perspective

Specific:
To add to what @DukeTrout posted, the whole ecosystem of these types of shooters (young, white men who are supposedly bullied loners) is just false. It goes back to the Columbine shooters, in fact, and keeps coming up, despite there being no real evidence to support those claims…
It’s just a way to excuse cracking down on the kids who ACTUALLY end up being bullied.
I wasn’t joking when I said that. His followers have very much reached cult status. Whether that was his intention or not, he’s reveling in it. If he ever does show his damaged ear, I fully expect to see his cult members altering their own ears to match.
and a way to blame absolutely anything but the actual cause.
if it’s bullies, or mental health issues, or video games or movies, we never have to do the one thing proven to reduce shootings:
take away the guns.
