Wow, it’s almost like big-money donors expect and receive what amounts to a quid pro quo return on their investment.
So any politician who accepts anything other than small-dollar donations from private citizens is essentially taking a bribe.

Conservatives always start from the assumption that it’s impossible for them commit treason, anything they do is by default Patriotic and moral and good. So when treason rears its ugly head it’s must be an illusion, the real treason is whatever the liberals are doing-- like investigating Trump and the NRA and corruption. Hence the “deep state” excuse-- there must really be secret anti-American moles working against democracy simply by being knowledgeable about how government functions, and doing their jobs efficiently, and reporting on Trump cabinet members lack of experience.
