Fox & Friends host explains the Matrix, poorly

I hadn’t known that The Matrix was a trans film so thanks for linking that  My own interpretation of the film would not have gleamed at gender identity as being one of the central themes, but i think it’s interesting and cool.

For humor: the term references the pill taken by a black man which enlightens you about the flaws in the system in a movie made by two transgender women, and is an allegory for the coming out process of transgender people, with the pill itself representing HRT medication. Or: alt-righters can’t even watch The Matrix right.

I have no idea if there is actually a literal red pill of any kind in Total Recall, and I’m pretty sure there was never that level of detail in “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” (or whatever it was called) which was only a few hundred words long.

It’s just more alt-right bullshit: “They know that their remarks are frivolous”

yeah, hence the scare quotes. But Putin is clearly the inheritor of the tradition that the Republicans railed against for decades and called the “commie threat” and strangely don’t care about any more.

I’m pretty sure that there wasn’t in either of them. And I can’t be bothered to think of previous works with similar themes. (Besides, they’d just claim that the Wachowskis stole from those.)

Shallow people with shallow arguments, attempting some kind of logical fallacy by backing up into obscurity.

And I’m like: “Hey kid, get off my lawn!”

(Ideas are everywhere, like bricks. What really matters is how you throw them, and through whose window.)

There is something very meta-meta about how they’re defending the theft of a meme that symbolizes enlightenment and truth by attacking the whole concept of verifiable facts

It’s not easy being the Frog Prince and an Incel at the same time.

Sure, I just meant that while I wouldn’t always assume a rose means socialism in any context, that is certainly my assumption when I see a rose emoji on Twitter, unless it’s preceded by “happy mothers’ day” or something.

And heck:

(He isn’t, obviously, but.)

I’m not the only one who interpreted his use of :rose: that way either. Even Forbes notes:

Musk randomly tweeted to his followers to “take the red pill,” accompanied by a rose emoji, often associated with the socialist cause

Either he knowingly is referencing socialism for some reason, or made a poor choice of emoji which is very likely to be misinterpreted.

Then why did he not contradict Ivanka Trump when she of all people agreed with him? Or is she a secret socialist, too?

I suspect he did not intend to invoke socialism at all, but I have no clue, his output on Twitter is quite a rollercoaster.

Yes, she was talking about Hydroxychloroquine; the designer version.

Apparently he has five other children, so that appears to be true. (I knew he had kids, but I didn’t realize he had so many.) I also knew he was dating actress Talulah Riley, but I didn’t know he had married her, divorced her, remarried her and then divorced again. Dude’s got issues.

The fylfot means a lot of things, but if I stick a swastika in a tweet and I’m not intending it to indicate support for Nazis, I better be pretty fucking clear about what I do mean. It’s not on readers to guess what I “really” mean by it.

There was a pill that was supposed to return the protagonist to the real world at one point, I can’t remember the colour of it though. I do remember the film being ambiguous about whether he was having a psychotic break right to the end though.

Maybe some people just see what they want to see, just like the protagonist did.

Really, I should have said: his issues have issues.

I think it’s worth mentioning that the protagonist (I can’t remember his name and don’t care enough to look) is a perfect fit for the qanon types, and taking the pill would have been the equivalent of taking the blue pill in the Matrix.

I don’t know what the chuds think they are doing, I just know that it is bullshit.

From memory i think it’s blue. Let me check and see if its on YT

Edit: It was indeed red, though in this context the pill is not what it seems to be unlike the pill in The Matrix.

It’s hard to know what is what in that film.

Unlike The Matrix it was not meant to function as a straightforward tutorial for revolutionaries.

ALSO: in T.R. the protagonist is a rebel hero in the simulation (if that’s what it is) and an ordinary shlub in the real world, which is backwards from The Matrix. And even if we could construct a Grand Unified Theory of Red Pills that worked for both films, the MRA’s would still invoke it in reverse.
