Future archaeologists… “WTF?”
(Some will, inevitably, not get dug up by the buryers.)
Or - at the certain risk of enraging some resident archaeologists here - “We think they did it for ritual purposes.” And, TBH, they wouldn’t be far wrong.
I always thought something like this would be a great technique for contactless sales of illicit substances. Make your purchase on the dark web, pay with crypto, and go dig up your purchase in a park.
With the amount of foot traffic in GGP, though, I’d be concerned about randos investigating freshly disturbed ground and finding your stash. Maybe up a tree would be better?
This is brilliant! I approve.
I’m wondering if people have also buried snacks and/or water bottles.
Something, something, squirrels.
i think this plan falls apart when you cant bring a shovel in
Use your iPhone or Samsung Galaxy 903
Illegal…sure. Inadvisable…why? Sounds like a great idea. Just need to make sure the spot is well-hidden.
On the Internet Archive there’s a description from one early 70’s Grateful Dead recording that the guy who recorded it slipped into the stadium (UC Santa Barbara) the night before and buried his tape deck on the field, then pulled it out to tape the show. Where there’s a will. . . .
GGP is a pretty controlled ecology. Also, if this publicity makes the practice too prevalent, someone is bound to bury under grass or other manicured turf as opposed to dirt.
Reminds me of the time i had the incredibly dumb idea of sneaking in an entire 750ml bottle of rum into a Korn concert at the House of Blues in Las Vegas. How did i plan to sneak it in? Shoved into one of my cargo short pockets. Before going in we needed to go through security, which i wasn’t expecting to be there because i’m smart. The guy waves me over, i think to myself that i’m screwed… and right before i get to him he hones in on my GF at the time and asks to look at her purse. While he’s distracted i casually walk in with no one the wiser, and concerned over the evidence while at in indoor venue we decide we have to drink it all which we did.
That was… an intense concert
Here’s what the bottle looked like
So bury a shovel too.
I buried a whole package of hot dogs there last week. Going to save so much money this weekend.
You’ve made a very good point.
Like a dead drop in the world of espionage.
Brilliant!
This was/is definitely a thing you see on imgur. Someone posting photos of a random outdoor spot with a circle or similar mark.

A better idea is to bury an entire mobile cocktail stand, then dig it up and start selling to the festival-goers at prices which undercut the official suppliers.
