The model 3 can be put in neutral if bricked but it’s a cumbersome process. It requires attaching external 12VDC (jumper cables) to the external 12V port to pop the hood, then connecting to the battery with jumper cables to charge it, then using the now-powered control panel to put the car in neutral or towing mode. Easy, right?

That’s crazy. - especially in a catastrophic failure scenario. I mean I get the flatbed towing snag - my car is AWD and I’m intimately familiar with this kind of requirement. The NASA checklist of steps to get the thing into neutral, on the other hand…

Tesla has had a small group of owners testing out the beta version of its “Full Self-Driving” software — which, despite the name, does not make the company’s cars fully autonomous — on public roads for about a year now. But this week, Vice reported that the company makes participants in the program sign NDAs. These agreements even discourage people from sharing footage of the beta software performing poorly because “there are a lot of people that want Tesla to fail.”
