Musk hates this one weird trick…
Whoever signed off on skipping the EIS is having a real bad day.
It’s Musk’s fault isn’t it?
It’s only me or this article smells of LLM fill?
Twitter is going great is hanging up the towel.
A year ago, Elon Musk announced he was buying Twitter. Six months ago, he was forced to go through with it.
Soon afterwards, a group of us decided to create a timeline of the inevitable disaster that would ensue.
We kept it going for nearly 300 entries, but real life intervened while the chaos never slowed.
Deluded billionaire Elon Musk continues to spew stupid ideas that exhausted engineers are forced to rush through half baked, the company moves inexorably closer to bankruptcy, white supremacists increasingly dominate everyone’s feeds, the few remaining lawyers cave instantly to authoritarians, the platform’s reliability plummets ever downwards… and we need a break.
So while Twitter slowly sinks into quicksand of its own making, we’re sunsetting this site.
We aren’t affiliated with the Twitter account @bestofdyingtwit, and we don’t know its creator, but it seems to be a pretty good place to follow what happens next in this slow-motion reboot of the Titanic.
Thanks to so many of you for your anonymous submissions, which helped keep us on top of the relentless flow of bad and stupid news. Thanks again to Molly White for the core code of this site and letting us use the name.
Thanks to you for following. Good tweet and good luck.
trademarks. how do they work?
yeah, but that’s not what he means. he means he’ll give it to some white supremacist who’ll tweet as national public radio. that’s the implication and threat. npr would be obligated to sue him to protect their trademark, and it would be an easy win
the man is an idiot and a bully
He’s really so petty he can’t see how he’s damaging the reputation of the platform as a reliable place to do business, isn’t he? What company is going to want to start advertising on Twitter if they risk losing their trademarked name as a handle if they displease the chief Twit?
Notably, a new study from DFR Lab found that at the end of March, just before all this went down, Elon’s Twitter had clearly taken some sort of behind the scenes policy change to make the Twitter accounts of government propaganda mills from Russia, China, and Iran get more attention, suggesting that the attack on NPR, the BBC, and the CBC were not so random, but rather cover for helping authoritarian propaganda mills.
Some Russian, Chinese, and Iranian state media accounts which Twitter had previously labeled as “government-affiliated” were hemorrhaging followers in the months prior to this policy update, then experienced rapid gains after Twitter instituted the change. While multiple factors could contribute to these accounts’ growth trajectory, but the sudden, simultaneous increase in followers per day after a period of decline indicates platform-wide algorithmic change around March 29.
The results are pretty stark, and quite clear. Here, for example is the chart showing that Russia’s RT main Twitter account had been losing followers, and then suddenly shot upwards:
The Iranian PressTV also has a clear increase:
Kinda eye opening.
I hope NPR replied with the poop emoji
Dead berb this morning.
Elon has clearly never read the last sentence of that error message
