i checked back in on twitter yesterday and the first post the algorithm showed me was Brianna Wu arguing that Starship Troopers wasnât fascist because she has based her politics on it.
the second post in my feed was a nazi meme account listing their favorite racial slurs.
i closed the app.
I guess that means sheâs going to enlist so she becomes a citizen and can vote.
⌠like Dick Cheney, she had more important things to do at the time
How blind do you have to be to âmissâ Verhovenâs especially unsubtle treatment?
heres the thing; starship troopers is exactly what the fascist society pictured in the film would put out as a propaganda-blockbusterâŚall the cynical sarcasm in st is their definition of âgenuinely funnyâ, âcampyâ and humour in general. the film works both ways and a lot of people back then didnt get the satire and quite some of them were progressives. for fascists on the other hand its their perfect sf-blockbuster from a future with a perfect anti-star-trek-society.
Iâd argue it isnât either: itâs a satire of fascism.
My politics were already set against fascism before I saw it though.
Itâs also the first post-9/11 film, despite being made before 9/11.
âIâm from Buenos Aires New York and I say kill 'em all!â
⌠oh gawd, I assumed they meant the book
Heâs probably going to shift gears and make a CyberGigantor instead.
⌠âalt-right midlife crisisâ is definitely a thing
Yeah, because communists donât know anything about service and the duty to your fellow citizens?
i didnât realize she had fallen so far off the wagon. is it just this one thing? ( because i know sometimes people keep odd attachments to things theyâve liked. )
( eta: like i know sheâs always had a libertarian lean, but fascism is fascism )
