Fuck Today, Continued

It shouldn’t be, but fascists need an enemy. They are not going to stop with trans kids either — I’ve already read about GOP politicians saying it should be illegal to transition until 25. I’m sure that will be put in a bill soon enough. Unless they are stopped, I don’t see them stopping at 25.

“Kill-switches and VIN locks go hand in hand — but they’re also comorbid with security incompetence. Remember Medtronic? Its implanted medical devices (whose owners can only switch vendors with a scalpel and general anesthesia) are incredibly, terrifyingly insecure, and Medtronic, like Deere, insists nothing is wrong. That’s why a couple of security researchers had to build and demonstrate “a universal remote for killing people” with hacks of their implants, before that Medtronic would institute a voluntary recall of just one of its products.“

“The 29-year-old victim was walking on Rising Sun Avenue near Cottman Avenue when a car with two females inside pulled up and shot the woman, said police.

The woman later died at the hospital.

The incident happened right in front of a police officer, which helped officers make a quick arrest.“

Gas explosions will become much more common. When you ignore infrastructure and don’t pay for quality repair people or construction workers, this is what happens.

Ms. Pane is now a criminal in the eyes of my state. As a therapist, if she treats a teen who is transitioning (which she does), and if her treatment plan doesn’t affirmatively put a stop to the transition (which ethically she cannot decide against if the patient does not want it) she can be arrested (which we are now planning for).

Please tell Ms. Pane she might be a criminal but she is also most definitely a hero.

Thank. As a practitioner, this is a specialty population of hers. So, we’re making plans for the worst.

Stay safe and I definitely agree with this -

Thanks. It’s an especially “fuck today” for us, as our three teens decided tonight to tell us how happy they are with Roe being overturned. Big argument, big family fight. Not nearly enough Laphroig in the house.

Wow. My thanks to her.

If the need arises for support for legal costs etc - let us mutants know.

It may be time for them to support themselves-and you don’t need to worry about them.

I’m not sure how that comment helps him right now.

Kids at that age have a way of being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian. I experimented with all kinds of bizarre political philosophies at that age (I was somehow pro nuclear war at some point; I don’t even remember how that came up). In other words, I wouldn’t worry about that too much. The values that matter become clear in one’s twenties.

Because of course the national body in charge of funding disability support discriminates against disabled employees.

wow. all of that sounds really hard. maybe they’re also sensitized by the rest of what you all are dealing with, and see that path as some sort of safety for them right now. at school or wherever

im not a parent, so i don’t know what it’s like. i imagine the talking and the fighting is good - even if it’s also the worst. maybe that’s what gets kids thinking: where did i learn that thing? why do i feel that way?

maybe those hard moments - with guidance - is what leads kids to empathy and perspective later

case in point: my family was religious and conservative. they never talked to me. about anything. if they had, maybe i’d be a gop darling. instead, i’m a left wing socialist leaning mutant. so let that be a lesson. parents: always talk to your kids or they’ll wind up a lefty. ( hmmm… i might have lost the moral on this one :cat: )

Maybe so. It’s a tough discussion. One of those children wouldn’t even have been conceived and born if we hadn’t made the difficult choice with a previous pregnancy. So the entire conversation is painful in ways they cannot possibly get.

I appreciate the supportive comments. It was a rough night. But as the song goes, today is a new day. (At least, I think there’s a song like that. If not there ought to be)

I think you’re thinking of “Black Hole Sun.”
Just kidding!
Whatever one might think of the band’s lead, “Beautiful Day,” is a helluva pick me up.

And sending some spiritual Laphroig through the internets.
