Fuck Today, Continued

This crap is the flip side of the justice system going light on rapists. It’s not the first time I’ve heard about people defending themselves from their rapists/traffickers getting the book thrown at them.

It’s misogyny all the way down…

Maybe if we get a Kickstarter going for this? It wouldn’t take very long to get started, I bet!

US hospital told family their daughter had checked out when in fact she’d died | California | The Guardian?

“On 12 April 2024, more than a year after Peterson was last seen, the Sacramento county detective’s office informed the family that she had been found dead at Mercy San Juan, the suit states. According to her death certificate, which was completed in April 2024, Peterson died of cardiopulmonary arrest at age 31.

Peterson’s sister went to the coroner’s office seeking her remains, but a worker told her that the office did not have Peterson’s body and directed her to contact the hospital. Mercy San Juan was not responsive to efforts to contact them, according to the lawsuit, and a mortuary eventually informed Congi that Peterson’s body had been found in one of the hospital’s off-site storage facilities.

Her body was so decomposed the family could not obtain her fingerprints or hold an open casket funeral, and an autopsy that could have indicated whether there had been medical malpractice associated with her death was “rendered impossible”, according to the lawsuit.“

Sorry - she checked herself out against all medical advice.

They certainly did not intend to cover up evidence of malpractice. Nope, not at all.

According to a statement by forestry management firm Metsähallitus, logging machines repeatedly crossed the shallow river, depositing mud, sand and debris into the river, wiping out a large number of the mussels. The habitat of the pearl mussel and its host species, the brown trout, has been damaged along an estimated 150-200 metre stretch.

“The devastation in the stream is one of the worst events we have ever witnessed,” said Pirkko-Liisa Luhta, a project manager at Metsahallitus.

For the love of all that is good, stop using Phillips-head screws for sheet metal!

If there was ever a standard for Phillips, like the angle that the tip of the screwdriver comes to a point, the flanges, etc, it was all junked ages ago, and it’s a “whatever” standard. No matter how big your toolbox, there will be at most only one driver/bit that properly grips the screw to torque it off without stripping it.

I’m replacing a switch on the stove that sometimes locks the element to full-on. (No way am I going to leave a hazard like that to the house buyers, even if the appliances are “as-is” in the contract.) I had to read my box inventory, and figure out where my drawer with my drill screwdriver bits were for just the right one (Box Off6).

A green Robertson #2 would have been the perfect screw for the application. (Torx are fancy bullshit.)

The inspector said the washing machine in my new place makes ominous sounds, and I should plan on replacing it. Don’t threaten me with a good time! (I still have the cut-off wheels I used to remove the remains of the agitator hub in the washer here.)

Ha! It turns out that removing the screws from back was pointless. The back is structural, and doesn’t come off. The front panel, after removing a couple of Robertson #3s, tilts forward. :man_facepalming:

Now just to get the part number of the infinite switch and order a replacement.
