it’s hard to believe that well into the 21st century, the fda still stops men who have sex with men from donating blood
The Food and Drug Administration bars people who have had sex with gay or bisexual men from donating blood for three months following the most recent sexual contact because of fears of HIV in the blood supply.
The agency changed the deferral period from 12 months to three months in November 2020 as blood donations fell [during covid].
they have quite a number of questions about sexual activity – but not any that ask about your number of recent partners, or the use of condoms – both of which seem way more relevant than whether someone has had sex with ( for instance ) their husband.
( also, you can’t give blood if you lived in the uk for more than 3 months during 1980-1996. because of the risk creutzfeldt jakob disease i guess, and not – apparently – due to first hand exposure to post-punk. )

Ugh, that’s absolutely awful. Bridgewater unfortunately gets overshadowed by its nearby cousin, but it’s a great college in a beautiful area. We pass by it all the time and it seems like a great place to work.
