Hopefully minimal. It sounds like he got treatment immediately & a full recovery is expected. Delay possibly.

Judicial officials said one hypothesis being considered was that the cocaine was intentionally adulterated as part of a settling of scores between traffickers.

Some local media outlets reported that the cocainehad been “cut” with a toxic substance.

Police said that the cocaine was sold in the poor neighbourhood “Puerta 8” in San Martín – a suburb to the north of Argentina’s capital – and that a dozen people had been arrested.

“This event is absolutely exceptional. We have no precedent,” San Martin attorney general Marcelo Lapargo told cable channel Todo Noticias. “If the situation has escalated and the nature of trafficking has changed to the point where this becomes commonplace, I hope I never see it again.”

Don’t read this:

Known as Galgueros, hunters dispose of Galgos at the end of hunting season in the most horrific ways imaginable… hung from trees, thrown into wells, starved, beaten to death or abandoned. It is estimated that thousands of Galgos are killed every year.

Look at this instead:

Yeah, this is exactly the kind of scenario I was ranting about just a few days ago when Feinstein said they had plenty of time to do the Supreme Court confirmation hearings.

Very minor fuck today, compared to others:

I ordered a bike. Kind of the one bike to keep, for the rest of my life.

I ordered on May 22. Last year. Today, after quite a long time, I got a mail from the shop: it arrived. Pictures included.

However, when I ordered, I chose a colour based on how it was displayed in the bike companies catalogue. I changed my mind after looking up photos of bikes in that specific colour, e-mailed the shop and asked them to change my order.

The bike arrived in a colour which does neither look like the one I chose, nor looks any appealing. Even the guy mailing me the pictures of the bike seems to be put of.

I don’t know what my options are, now. This is build-to-order, customised. And I waited for a long, long time. I wanted this to be perfect.

I’m am thrilled the bike finally arrived, but at the same time… Damn.

I’ve had a very suspicious, low-grade fever for the past three days, and am now developing a small, infrequent cough.

This, in spite of literally not having spent more than a few minutes indoors in the presence of anyone but Ms. Hotel in the past three plus weeks (vaxxed, boosted, low-risk, crowd-avoidant, and always masked indoors when not at home). Home-covid tests negative so far.

Best guess is that I got it from her since she has to ride the Metro one day a week (she has no identifiable symptom though :grinning:).

Find a shop near you that can repaint the bike and negotiate to have the cost covered by the people you bought the bike from.

Those are known as greyhounds in the States, and their fate is not much better, although at least it’s not as outright cruel as that.

They’re incredibly sweet dogs. There’s a push in the States to get people to adopt 2-year-olds, which is when they’re no longer used for racing and thus have no more value to their owners. I highly recommend them as pets – they don’t even need as much exercise as you’d think, but a good run once or twice a week is helpful – but out here in the woods (rural Indiana) with lots of prey to chase after and no fences, it’s the wrong breed choice!

So might have misunderstood something but isn’t greyhound sane english greyhound not a Spanish sighthound?

After reading that, I kind of feel like subjecting them to some of their own brutality. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

My sister does this, bringing Greyhounds from Florida to Canada, socializing them and re-homing them.

Snow is… new to them. I’m sure they think they’ve arrived in hell. They learn to wait for the coat before going out.

Her acre-sized property is also home to rabbits selectively culled into the fastest rabbits in Canada.

Temperament is: “cat in dog’s clothing.” They can be a little clueless and some really can’t be let off the leash, but very mellow dogs.

I can’t answer for other country’s dog breeds, but it would make sense that a greyhound in Britain and in the States would mean the same thing. I don’t know about any Spanish sighthound breeds, but it’s likely they’re either the same or else very much related, based on what I’m seeing in your link regarding Dia del Galgo. They’re identical, as far as I can tell. But I’m not a breeder, so I don’t 100% know.

That’s great! A relative of mine took a dog home from the shelter, and it looked like a mutt. It had been dropped off by the most recent owner because, as the two previous owners also noted, it would run away f let off the leash. It looked like a cross between greyhound, setter, and who knows what. It would catch squirrels regularly, and if it got away it would often return proudly carrying a ground hog or two. One day browsing a dog book we realized it was a Plott Hound. They were bred for boar and bear hunting, and for going out, independently to hunt and bring back small game as well. She was a great dog, but the breed is not for everyone.

ETA: A funny/not funny incident happened in during a backyard party. The dog was straining at the leash it was on, so a partygoer “helpfully” let her off the leash. She took off into the woods, and returned 10 minutes later carry a live groundhog. She brought it up to the owner and in the midst of the crowd, shook the groundhog furiously, audibly snapping its neck. She dropped it and looked around proudly. Before we could get her on the leash she took off again and brought back another. We said :“good girl” and put her inside for the rest of the party.

From a quick read, Galgos are of the greyhound family, typically slightly smaller than a greyhound. (But bigger than a whippet or an Italian Greyhound).

They’re all sighthounds. That’s why the rabbit in greyhound racing.

We have two rescue greyhounds, one is a 4yo who is very shiny and enthusiastic and not very bright, the other is a grand old man at 13.

I have seen them described as “cat software on dog hardware”. They typically can’t be left off the leash when being walked, because the “chase small moving thing” instinct is very strong. If they’ve been socialised, then they’re not danger of attacking people, but 20kg of ballistic low-flying dog has its own dangers, especially to children. But they’re sweet and affectionate and spend most of their time recumbent.

There are at least two greyhound rescue organisations just in this state, and they’re always busy.

Carlisle has a population of 70,000-100,000 people, and I didn’t live that near to where this happened, but the idea that someone was a slave just a few miles from where I lived, and for my entire life, makes me sick.
