Fuck Today (Part 1)

Meteorologists are already saying that the past few days’ extreme heat is likely the worst we’ll get this summer. That being said, with my condo’s shitty insulation and it being on the top floor I absolutely bake every summer. It’s going to be in the 80s for the next couple months at least so I’m still going to happily be using it for the time being. Once it gets here.

I can sympathize. Here in TJ, it’s pretty warm, but the annoyance is that water service has been out for the last three days (only on during the late night), likely due to conservation efforts further north.

No pizza rats here in San Francisco. I will check tomorrow. :pizza: :rat:

After retirement, seniors face lower income levels, no longer have access to free occupational healthcare services and mounting costs for medication, leaving them particularly vulnerable to unplanned medical bills.

The median pension in Finland is 1,534 euros per month. However, a third of retirees earn less than 1,250 (1,483.80 USD) per month, according to data released by Statistics Finland.

However, because of Client Charges in Healthcare Act law reforms that go into effect next month, routine health care centre nurse visits will become free of charge throughout the country and there will be new price caps on the amount patients can be charged for dental care and mental health services.

So fuck today but future seems to be a bit better.

Wait, your government’s reaction to the elderly finding it hard to access needed medical care is to offer them FREE medical care? What kind of way is that to run a country? /s

The looming famine in Tigray is an avoidable catastrophe

I hadn’t realized the extent of land rehabilitation that had taken place there. Here we took what’s pretty much the only land in :canada: that can grow two crops a year and build the City of Mississauga on it. Of course, climate change is changing that too, but that’s another thread.

Is every (modern?) famine not ultimately caused by politics? George Monbiot has added one more to the list.

Hopefully the heat has moved on for you. We actually had a cool night here last night.

Lytton BC on the other hand went from breaking the Canadian temperature record for several days in a row to:

I think they get to say Fuck all of these days.

This book is about Katrina, but addresses this issue:

Generally speaking, yes, when something is a disaster, it’s because it impacts people so a “natural” disaster is really man made and based on policies.

Just fuck this week. And the best part of the last.
I can’t even feel joyous that I got fully vaccinated last week.

There’s so much going on. I have no way of coping with it. I tried to change variables during the last months, and right now, I doubt I can go on. I’m falling back into patterns which possibly will make things worse.

I hear you, and I feel you, because I’ve had my own run of trouble myself lately. I won’t go into details… but yeah, I’m struggling too. There’s not much I feel I can do or say to help, but I’m strongly reminded of what a local radio DJ, the Electrifying MOJO, used to say during his show decades ago:

“Hold on tight, don’t let go. Whenever you feel like you’re nearing the end of your rope, don’t slide off. Tie a knot. Keep hanging, keep remembering, that there ain’t nobody bad like you.”

You got vaccinated (congrats!)-- that’s not nothing. That’s progress; it’s a step forward. Sometimes all we can do is keep moving, step by step, even when we can’t see the path ahead, and trust that we’ll make it through, somehow. And when we can’t, we tie that knot and hold on tight, until we can keep going again.

I know what meager words I have are probably inadequate, but right now, that’s all I’ve got. If nothing else, know that you’ve got other Happy Mutants out there, who care and are rooting for you.

Stories like this are always tragic, but this just broke me

The boy, whose name was not released, was in foster care, Clevenger said. Authorities are working to reach his biological mother, he said.

What kind of hell had this poor kid already been through, to end like this.

I know this small potatoes coming from a virtual person with a fake name and a dumb avatar, but hang in there–you can get through this. You’ve gotten this far, and you’ve got a community here pulling for you. Soon enough you’ll å være midt i smørøyet. (or something like that).

Hang tough! Check in often.

I’m so sorry  Like others have said, I know this is small potatoes, but when I’ve had really rough times, it gave me a little comfort to let myself count it as a win that, “I kept breathing today. I’m still breathing. And for right now, that’s enough to expect of myself.”
Be easy on yourself. We’re all rooting for you. Keep breathing.

Been there, done that. The only certainty is change, and sometimes the only option is to keep going until that happens. For whatever it’s worth, you are valued here.

There we go again. “We expect that autistic folks will be violent.”

Some of my dad’s friends still believe ‘refrigerator moms’ are to blame. I keep my mouth shut around them.

And surprisingly, have never been violent toward them. Hmmm, maybe their crackpot theories need some tweaking?
