Full Text: GOP Nunes memo released over FBI and Justice objections

Meh-mo.

And I had such hopes.

Of course he knew, the White House fucking told him about it.

Yeah, but… they are all just moving their offices to K Street.
Their jobs will be just as odious and their actions just as reprehensible.
As a down side, they will be paid more.

OTOH, white supremacy and suppressing the reds have usually been bipartisan projects.

Welcome to rise of the Trump l’oeil - the illusion that Drumpf is actually anything to do with politics, as opposed to distraction whilst the US is thoroughly destroyed.

Also because they’re on record admitting to it.

What does this prove? That now the GOP is complicit in Obstruction of Justice.

There’s no maybe about it - there was a FISA warrant on Carter Page in 2014.

I don’t know about money, but an overlooked story is that in addition to the DNC the DCCC was also hacked. And Republicans, including Speaker Ryan, absolutely used leaked items from that hack (which included stuff like budgets and strategy documents) for their electoral advantage

Indeed. Going after political dissidents has been their primary raison d’etre since day one.

Eh? Did I miss something? I thought the DCCC hack was confirmed to be recycled and edited docs from the DNC hack?

Were they hacked in earnest after that?

Nope, it was internal DCCC documents, and Republicans like Ryan’s Congressional Leadership Fund were more than happy to use them once Guccifer 2.0 leaked them out. The New York Times wrote about it and everything.

So, Medievlaist, since you have a family member who was in the FBI, I have to wonder: after all this will the FBI (and the wider intelligence community) every trust the Republican Party ever again?

Why was this poor relation to a cease-and-desist letter marked Top Secret? It alleges that a member of the FBI’s level of Adoration for the President was falling short of their expectations, but that’s about it. You can’t use Top Secret just to prevent people at large knowing you are a Golden Numpty.

I wonder whether the ‘people responsible’ have started feeling ‘very ashamed’ yet.

The memo appears to be the equivalent of the Democrats finding out that the FBI applied for a FISA warrant on Hillary Clinton’s campaign based on information they got from Judicial Watch or James O’Keefe.

It’s total hearsay with no primary source evidence, as are of course all the Trump/Russia stories which have appeared in the WaPo and the NYT over the last year.

What I am wondering is why this nothing-burger caused the Democrats and the FBI to go into full sphincter clench mode about its release. An attempt to make Nunes look like a fool to the Trumpenproletariat after working themselves into a lather about wanting to read it???

No. The memo doesn’t list all of the sources for seeking a fisa warrant. We have no idea what all of them were. As has been pointed out - most of these warrants have 100 or so pages outlining the reasons for seeking surveillance over someone speaking with foreign intelligence operatives. The fact that this was the third approval of doing so with Carter Page supports good reasons to do so. Four judges approved this. Most if not all of the FBI staff involved were Republicans.

Anyone looking at Page’s history, behavior and contacts with foreign intelligence operatives - including the NY investigation he was involved in - wouldn’t say it was unusual to watch his contacts with foreign operatives.

But - more memos to come!

Likewise, we’re now on the side of the FBI and FISA courts.

Strange days.

It’s too bad there’s such a lag in reporting. I expect that there will be interesting numbers in 2016.

Between Nunes’ running across the White House lawn schtick to reveal nothing, and Nunes later releasing this memo, I can’t decide if someone is blackmailing him into be a puppet/fallguy, or he’s given himself over to some weird Authoritarian trip. Before Trump, both sides stated he was a man of integrity, but something’s changed. As one CNN commentator stated: Nunes got on the Trump election train and never got off.
