It’s been a long time since I saw Maddow get this giddy on her show
Anyways, nothing will happen just like nothing has happened ever since the cheeto slithered into office with 3 million fewer votes and refused to divest his empire.
And just think of all the endless trump records (e.g. tax returns, visitor logs, mar-a-lago visits, …) that will be released “because transparency” [eyeskywards]
Meh. Bleh.
Another multimillionaire establishment major-party trumpeter, getting paid by corporate media to ignore real possibilities for progressive change. I’m not at all surprised she says there that she has friends working for Fox News – they’re all working in the entertainment/distraction business. I wonder how much those clothes she’s wearing cost.
one depressing thought: undermining the department of justice leaves dhs to fill the vacuum.
neither the fbi nor the cia are under dhs, and it’s ice who’s been acting like a secret police force.
none of it bodes well for civil society. at least the fbi is supposed to go after criminals. it’s dhs who gets to do whatever they want re: terrorism and “border security”.
That has traditionally been one of the core functions of state secrecy, though.
One thing the memo does indirectly confirm is that the Steele Dossier was NOT the sole evidence to used support the FISA warrant since it was granted three subsequent 90-day extensions, and you can’t apply for a renewal without offering additional evidence.
Well, having a retired g-man in the family doesn’t really give me any insight to that.
I do know that the people in the FBI (and other three-letter agencies) consider themselves to be patriotic, hard-working “good guys” and they consider professional politicians (of all parties) to be grandstanding narcissists who generally consider their personal wants to be more important than the country’s needs.
It’s part of what makes organizations like the FBI, NSA and CIA so dangerous to society. They see themselves as doing heroic work, and “do-gooders never sleep” as the saying goes.
That’s the most infuriating part of Trump’s anti-deepstate movement. In a broad sense, his rhetoric is justifiable, and has been the cry of the ACTUALLY oppressed for a long time. Out of control, unaccountable law enforcement agencies are a huge fucking problem in America. Of course the devil, in this case is not even in the details, it’s in the first line after he opens his damn mouth.
There’s a pretty good chance one of two things will happen this year:
- Mueller will indict Trump
- Trump will fire Mueller
Based on this episode, I think whichever happens, someone will ask Paul Ryan what he thinks and he will say, “The tax cuts are working.”
Mueller can’t indict Trump; only the House of Representatives can. Mueller can testify to the Congress. Trump can and will fire Mueller, Rosenstein, and possibly the entire Justice Department. If he fires Mueller, Mueller goes to work for Schneiderman, and we’ll make popcorn for that fight.
I think there’s a good chance of either of those this month
I really don’t know if that’s true. I know that there were legal opinions during Nixon’s tenure that you couldn’t simply come in an arrest (or indict) a sitting president. I’ve read recent articles that suggest this is a point of contention among legal scholars (much like the self-pardon issue). If the president did indeed shoot someone in the middle of the street, I think the police could cuff him and take him down to the holding cells just like anyone else. Maybe that’s not true, but I think a judge presiding over the case would likely say that the principle of the rule of law overrode other considerations.
Hmmm… With the ‘unitary executive’ theory, I’m not sure Federal forces could - which is why Trump will get a nasty surprise if Mueller goes to work for Schneiderman. He doesn’t command State law enforcement.
MAGA - Mueller Ain’t Going Anywhere.
