Gamer Felicia Day on Gamergate

I have glass milk bottle delivery, but i live in the 1950s, 20 years before that dweeb even invented D&D.

not -all-

Just the ones who make a point of disrupting conversations about the danger by making minimizing statements or trying to claim that victims are complaining incorrectly.

Itā€™s telling the Ms. Day crossed the street to avoid a couple of guys

thank you for telling us that about you.

Thatā€™s great research, but you are forgetting one pretty big thing. They donā€™t discuss much on twitter (because twitter is a horrible place to discuss and have a debate). They make streams, youtube vides and comments, where they talk about everything thatā€™s going on, what to do next, what they have accomplished and such.

I tend to be a solitary gamer, and for that matter I donā€™t play enough to consider myself a gamer per se, but this misogyny bullshit has to stop. And some of those tweets! The word toxic doesnā€™t even begin to describe the hatred these folks are showing.
So it is with no small amount of pleasure that I get to offer this small and subtle bit of unicorn to the fray. From Ms. Dayā€™s tumblr article:

:heartpulse: 28,791 NOTES

So the world canā€™t be all that bad.

Perhaps, but it is where they interface with the rest of the world when they arenā€™t sending out sock puppets to haunt comments sections. The streams and videos donā€™t accomplish that, because the average person running across them tends to tune out once theyā€™ve run across the slurs, the entitled whining, the outright lies, and the completely clueless misogyny.

have you been to any of these streams or videos? because i did, and will mostly itā€™s hang outs, but alot of the time itā€™s people with different views on gamergate (both pro and anti), that actually has a debate about it. and these streams are also linked out to twitter, so that they become connected to the twitter-feeds.

Actually, yes I have, but I donā€™t see much need to debate there when sock puppets persist in bringing the ā€œdebateā€ (such as it is) to me, whether on BB or the Grauniad or any other of the news aggregators or news sites I tend to read. And Iā€™ll be blunt: the GG primary materials are precisely as I have described them. How could they be anything else when the whole effinā€™ campaign was engineered from the start as a hatchet/harassment job against certain specific women?

Could you point us to a few of these ā€˜reasonableā€™ debates?

Iā€™d love to take your word for it, but Iā€™m not going to. Please provide a citation to validate your point?

Have you heard that excellent conspiracy theory about the whole Laurel Canyon crowd being a CIA plot? Mama Cass as a CIA agent

Hey, Gilbert, John Mayall lived out there (and may still do). Is he a CIA agent? :^S

I hate the Guardianā€™s comments section, as it appears to be mainly full of Daily Mail readers. Mind you, the Indyā€™s mainly Nigerian spammers, but if Iā€™m honest, I think I prefer them. At least theyā€™re politeā€¦

Nah, he was MI6 (and KGB at the same time, because, hey, 1960s British Intelligence Service!)

True. I like the Guardianā€™s aggressiveness in their reporting (I mean, really: employing the GG who gives the initials a good name, until he went on to the Intercept - Iā€™ll be glad when Greenwald can take the initials back), but they attract trolls like flies in their comments section.

Itā€™s dispiriting to read a good article on the Guardian, and then read the comments section. Itā€™s a classic example of what happens when you donā€™t have strong moderation in a forum.

The biggest streams about gamergate, would be on: Kotaku in Action, Internet Aristocrat (not many, heā€™s alot of the time drunk, he started the ā€œQuinnspericyā€ videos), Mundanematt (he has alot of videos on the matter, mainly at the length of 5 to 15 minutes long, brings up some good points), Sargon of akkad (the most active in bringing both sides). and iā€™m sorry for not pointing you directly to the streams or videos, i havenā€™t exactly archived them for my research on the matter (and the streams are all from 1 to 6 hours long), and itā€™s getting late for me here. but for anyone who would like a completely (but REALLY god damn long) objective look on the matter you can look here: http://goo.gl/km6Dw3

I suspect the majority of it really is that. ā€œHey, we can dox and harass women online without any repercussions, and we get all kinds of attention for it, and isnā€™t it funny when they squirm?ā€ Itā€™s all for the lulz.

And, within hours, she gets doxxed.

I listened to the Sargon stream in which three Gaters piled on rainbow-haired academic Jenni Goodchild, in an attempt to prove that DiGRA is some DARPA-affiliated puppet master organization. They harangued her for three hours, interrupted her constantly, called her ā€œlittle ladyā€, and generally made buffoons of themselves, then tried to claim theyā€™d demolished her arguments. At one point, all three of them yelled that she was refusing to answer their questionsā€¦and then couldnā€™t come up with a single one when she politely offered to do so. It was embarrassing (for the Gaters), who wanted her to sit quietly and bask in the masculine correctness of their idiot points, and I donā€™t feel I need to listen to any more.

(Jenni kicked ass, though.)

I have not seen this stream, can you direct me to it, or give me any led toward it? i would like to look into that.

Where there is something to the whole ā€œGames Journalism is corruptā€ thing I have to say that gamergate is just a whole lot of ugly evil shit.
