First of all, let’s get the bad news out of the way

Yet yesterday, despite all the warnings, we still had arseholes throwing things onto the pitch. Do they want Carlisle to get more fines and maybe points deductions? Because that is what the EFA could do, and they would be right to do that.

:rage:

It spoilt the good news, I’ll happily take a 1-1 draw against an established League One team, especially if Owen Moxon can score more goals like this.

Wrecsam and Notts County both got a rude welcome back to the EFL

I never like seeing MK win.

Yes that’s Omari Patrick, scorer of Carlisle United’s goal in the play off finals, scoring two on his Sutton United debut.

At least they weren’t Port Vale

I think their keeper had given up for the last few goals.

ETA:

I forgot to tell you about the other Carlisle United news.

Andrew Jenkins has been a director of Carlisle United for nearly half the time the club has existed, more if you only include the time it has been called Carlisle United.

I just had to chime in on this topic, especially when it comes to the incredible Lionel Messi. It’s impossible not to be in awe of his talent and the impact he’s had on the game of football.

Messi’s skill on the field is like poetry in motion. The way he dribbles, maneuvers, and scores goals is truly mesmerizing. He’s not just a player; he’s an artist who paints masterpieces on the pitch.

But what makes Messi even more special is his love for the game. You can see the passion and dedication in every match he plays. It’s as if he’s playing for the sheer joy of it, and that love for football is infectious. As fans, we can’t help but be swept up in his enthusiasm.

From those unbelievable free kicks to his incredible teamwork, Messi’s presence on the field elevates the game to a whole new level. He’s not just a footballer; he’s a legend in the making.

So, here’s to Messi – the magician with the ball, the inspiration for countless aspiring players, and the embodiment of the beautiful game. Long live the love for football and the eternal admiration for Messi!

I heard stories about the cult like obsession with highschool baseball there but holy shit isn’t that a bit much?

https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/10/sport/northwestern-hazing-scandal-football-spt-intl/index.html

Fitzgerald was fired from the school in July after allegations of hazing within the Wildcats football program, in which the university faces several lawsuits.

The shirt reads “Cats Against The World” with the number 51 below the slogan. Fitzgerald wore the 51 jersey when he played for the school in the mid-90s. Players on the team wore their normal practice uniforms.

An independent investigation commissioned by Northwestern prior to Fitzgerald’s firing found evidence of ongoing hazing that included “forced participation, nudity and sexualized acts of a degrading nature,” university president Michael Schill said in a July letter.

Though the investigation found no “credible evidence” Fitzgerald was aware of the alleged hazing, the head coach is ultimately responsible for the team’s culture, Schill said. Fitzgerald has denied any knowledge of hazing in the program.

Last week, Northwestern announced former US Attorney General Loretta Lynch would lead an independent review of athletics department culture and accountability mechanisms in wake of hazing lawsuits.

Men who play organized football have higher odds of developing Parkinson’s disease or Parkinson’s-like symptoms, researchers wrote Friday in the journal JAMA Network Open .

Why it matters: While plenty of attention has been focused on the long-term effects of head injuries in professional football, this study highlights a previously undocumented risk that exists even for those playing at the amateur level who make up the majority of those playing the game.

Between the lines: Researchers led by Boston University examined 1,875 men enrolled in an online study by the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

  • They concluded a history of playing football was associated with 61% higher odds of having a Parkinsonism or a Parkinson’s diagnosis — and that those who played the sport at a higher level were 2.93 times as likely.
  • The longer one played, the higher the odds of developing a condition, at a rate of 1.12 times as likely per season, researchers wrote.
  • There are many factors associated with Parkinson’s, not all linked with repetitive head impact, they said.

I didn’t think it was any more moral, considering that Ron DeSantis is turning Florida into a fascist state. He could have moved to almost any team anywhere, Real Madrid might say no but I can’t think of anywhere else.

Which reminds me, does anyone know anything about Tom Piatak? Rumour has it that he wants to buy Carlisle United, and he was seen at several Carlisle games last season.

Tom Piatak snr, a military veteran who was a captain with the US Army Corps of Engineers during Operation Desert Storm in the 1990-91 Gulf War, is the owner and chief executive of Magellan Transport Logistics, a firm based in Jacksonville, Florida. The company website also currently lists him as president.

That’s about all I can find.

Yeah, but they’re also pointing out that he’s still taking money from the Saudis, on top of moving to FL… I’m guessing that going to Inter Miami was at the behest of Beckham? But who knows…

Not sure… let’s see what I can google up… So, he used to (or still?) head up this organization, which is a conservative think-tank…

So, looks like he’s part of movement conservativism, at least? Not sure if he’s a MAGA guy or not?

I saw that and got worried, but he seems to be a different Tom Piatak.

I’m wondering if he has connections to Eddie Stobart. I can’t work out any other reason why he would be interested in Carlisle, of all teams.

Then I’m not sure… seems to be keeping a low profile…

Here’s something?

Some noise about diversity and supporting the troops (cause he was one)…

I will say that right wingers here in the US tend to not like soccer, so there’s that to consider. Doesn’t mean he’s not, and as you know, there are plenty of authoritarians embracing sportswashing… but that’s less likely here. American football is where it’s at for the far right in the US…

Carlisle have just ended Wigan’s winning start to the season.

1-1 is a good result, especially since Wigan will be aiming for a playoff place. Carlisle need to take more chances to score though.

Never surprised to hear more shite about that whole sad bundle of shenanigans.

I remember reading the original magazine article by Michael Lewis and then I saw that was the movie, and it just seemed off to me. I didn’t like how they had the actor portray Michael Oher and it was a bit too much white savour, too.

I would like to add fault to the NCAA for part of the adoption/conservatorship maneuver because they have these crazy rules, which penalized Oher for living with the Tuohys.

The initial motivation behind the Tuohys may have been pure in the beginning, but it became tainted when University of Miss became involved. I hope Michael Oher finds peace and I wish him luck with his litigation.

Yep. A lot for me. I couldn’t finish watching it for just that reason.
