I have yet to check his ethnicity, but I assumed he was white because the cops let him put the shotgun down instead of shooting him on sight. I swear, that was my line of thinking. And I’m so pissed we are at that point.

People drink themselves into a stupor for a myriad of reasons, including plain bad life choices, and choosing to label them as ”mentally unwell” does a disservice to those living with diagnosed mental illness. Please don’t do that here.
not having enough money to pay a lawyer to talk to the prosecutor and get a plea deal. the american “justice” system usually involves prosecutors throwing everything but the kitchen sink in the indictment, and you paying a lawyer to push back to reasonable charges.
Oh good, he’s going to prison for the next five years: the place where we send the criminally insane to receive abuse and neglect instead of the mental help and support they so clearly need. In today’s modern America, this is what we call justice.
