Also, it doesn’t separate “strongly approve” from “approve” or “somewhat approve” (one of these may not apply, depending on the rating scale used). IIRC, Trump has been bleeding heavily in terms of “strong approval”, and “somewhat approval” voters tend to not be arsed to get out and vote so… Massive boulder of salt all 'round.
Edit: looks like most reports give his “strong approval” hovering in the mid-20s with occasional bumps to low-30s, with “strong disapproval” in the 40s to 50s. Also worth noting that independents, as shown in the graph to be the vast plurality of voters, have a 20-40 split of “strong approval” vs “strong disapproval”. AKA, we can expect double the motivated indies to turn out against Trump, and they’re the swing vote.

I dunno–it sure seems like Trump resigning would be the least likely circumstance of all, doesn’t it? I mean, he just doesn’t care about our system of government, the rule of law, or the norms that make our system function, so I just can’t imagine what could lead him to do it.

I saw it initially as a joke, but I’m starting to take the “Melania is in Witness Protection” gag-theory more and more seriously as of late.
I still don’t think it’s likely, mind you, but at this point I actually consider it within the realm of possibility, and holy shit I just realized that I live in a universe where I actually consider this a possibility and oh man I think it’s time to start drinking at 10am.

What if Trump actually does shoot at someone on 5th Ave. and what if he misses and what if the guy shoots back and kills Trump? Does the guy have a constitutional right to claim self-defense?

Good question. Along those lines, I was thinking that, considering Trump screws up everything he does, and never does his own dirty work, if he tried to shoot someone, he’d almost surely miss. Maybe he’d hit Pence. Bless his heart.

It had occurred to me that “Trump shooting Pence on national television” might be one of the few scenarios in which he loses the unconditional support of his party.

The answer is yes. However the secret service will either take that person down before they can fire and/or they would have jumped in front of trump and taken the bullet.

I don’t think anyone really likes Pence. He’s another one of those “Ventriloquist dummies brought to life and possessed by an ancient and unspeakable evil, and is probably also a pedophile” faces that the Republican party seems to have so many of. Like Sessions, for example.

His popularity isn’t the issue. It will come down to who is allowed to vote and shows up. Close down a few more polling places in Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Philadelphia and you can swing the election. If you can get in an honest SOS in Michigan and Ohio you can swing it the other way. He’s had an under 10% dip in approval in enough swing states to keep everything in play. I recently saw a rumor that there’s an old video recording from Trump tower where he was caught on camera beating Melania, and that, further, the National Enquirer (or some other Trump-friendly tabloid) did a “catch and kill” on the tape and story. It’s totally unsourced and highly suspect, yet it feels extremely plausible, given who Trump is and his history of assaulting women.
