If God picked and chose which assassination attempts were to succeed based on the Godliness of the intended targets then I think He would be more likely to spare, say, a 39-year-old Baptist Minister who dedicated his life to fighting hatred and oppression than a 78-year-old fascist who already had his turn to be President.

Even if it were a valid slur, it’s just factually incorrect. In a survey of the current Congress, one person responded that they were a humanist, one responded with unaffiliated, and 20 people refused to answer. So, at most there are 22 members of Congress who could be atheists. Even if all of them were Democrats, that’s a small fraction of the total. Joe Biden is a deeply devout Catholic. Trump doesn’t even know which end of a Bible goes up.

I’m proud to be ‘godless’. Much like Richard Dawkins I just believe in one less ‘god’ than most folks (I mean how many devotees to Zeus are there nowadays? Ra? Thor? dryads? wind spirits? etc etc etc)
I don’t try to cram my philosophy down others throats. Please take your holy book and try to pick and choose the NICE passages, the peaceful, let’s all get along and work together passages. The help the poor and widowed or orphaned bits. I’m with an apocryphal Gandhi quote: love your Christ, not so sure about your ‘Christians’. As a spiritual person, I respect religious views that are good and kind. All the others can GTFO.
Also proud my House Rep is an ‘out’ atheist. Rock on Jared Huffman!

Once again, the problem here is not ALL religious people, as some here would have it. The problem are the fascists. Plenty of people who align with trump are themselves atheists, even if they wrap themselves in the flag and religion.
The fascist use of religion and blind patriotism/nationalism is the problem here. Not someone’s beliefs about the nature of the universe.

The basic Repub tenet, that Orange Julius Caesar is “godly,” just baffles me. At least it does when it’s not making me >puke emoji<.
A practicing Catholic is “in league with Satan” and OJC who “spent more time in Stormy Daniels than in a church” (kudos to whoever came up with that) is “godly.”
