Awww, look, they made a documentary about her!
… At a race held on March 22, 2004, during the peak of her popularity, more than 13,000 spectators packed the Kochi Racetrack, 3,000 of whom had gathered outside before the gates opened, forcing the track to open 30 minutes earlier than scheduled. Some people waited in line for up to five hours to buy tickets at the “Haru Urara Commemorative Ticket Booth” …
The Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said “I’d like to see Haru Urara win, even just once. The horse is a good example of not giving up in the face of defeat.”[2]
Haru Urara ran her last race in August 2004 and retired with a record of 0 wins and 113 losses.
No Chicago Cubs jokes made during this post. Except this one.
I’ve seen that movie. It’s good! Zach’s in it too.
I hesitate a bit to put this here, given that there is a rise in cases going on… but…
Restaurants serve green grits for the holiday?
With apologies to Dr. Seuss:
I would not eat them at the Ritz,
they lured me with green-tinted grits!
I’ll have to try green eggs and ham,
just for St. Patrick’s, Sam-I-Am.
I’ve been lucky enough to celebrate one St.Patty’s day in Savannah, and it is indeed a good, encouraging thing to see it happening again.
I mainly just walked around, no eating of green grits, but people get all decked out. My favorite sighting was an older couple, both had dyed their white hair temporarily bright green, and their little dog was bright green, too! The fanciful frivolity can be a real balm.
Fountains in city parks and squares are gushing water dyed emerald green
Still not as good as the April 1st day in Zurich when the Hurlimann brewery, which also bottles mineral water, pumped beer instead of water through the fountain in front.
(For North Americans, the fountains in are all potable water of very good quality, unless marked otherwise.)
…and if you can still say “Feldschlösschen” you’re OK to have another…
RBG and other stuff to make it harder
Yeah, I didn’t know it, but there was no way it wasn’t that answer!
I know they’ll be other difficulties; but I think this will be much better for the students.
Good news for CA: (excerpt) All Californians who pay state income taxes would receive a $400 rebate, regardless of their income. So, in theory, billionaire Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and the manager of your local In-N-Out would both receive a rebate of $400. Because the payments would be sent to each individual taxpayer, married couples would receive $800.
Assemblymember Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Irvine) said the rebates should be sent out as soon as possible and that the state should not wait until the Legislature and Gov. Gavin Newsom agree on the entire state budget, which is traditionally completed in late June.
“Our goal is to be able to do this in the spring, and all the folks here are going to be pushing really, really hard to make that happen,” Petrie-Norris said at a news conference Thursday outside the state Capitol.
More good news… for CA students:
Reminds me of the code words used by employers when describing job qualifications for a receptionist spot needing to be filled: “front-office type”.
Translation: White. Blond. Blue-eyed. “Female” as a requirement was understood for that position.
I like that final line:
Troops can expect to see start seeing the bottles in their MREs any day now, as they began being added in 2019.
I remember opening MREs in the late '90’s and they included M&Ms with the Barcelona olympics logo.
Military humor.
From the folks who gave you SNAFU, FUBAR, FUBIJAR, KMAGYOYO, etc.
It’s funny. Accurate. Painful.
Ye gods!
Friends working for an NGO in Afghanistan told me that instant coffee and instant creamer regardless of date of expiry were highly valued. (That which does not kill me makes me… struggle to rid my tongue of a dank funk of gone-off foodstuffs.)
